About the role

Mater Private Hospital Brisbane is seeking a skilled and motivated Nurse Unit Manager to join our dedicated team at the Central Sterilisation Department (CSD) on a permanent full time basis. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced nurse leader to play a pivotal role in managing and coordinating our sterilisation services.

Salary range: $71.42 - $76.80 per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead and manage a team of nurses and support staff within the Central Sterilisation Department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality sterilisation services
  • Develop and implement sterilisation policies and procedures in compliance with industry standards and regulatory guidelines
  • Oversee the maintenance and calibration of sterilisation equipment, ensuring their proper functioning and adherence to infection control protocols
  • Collaborate with other healthcare departments to ensure efficient and timely delivery of sterilised instruments and equipment
  • Manage inventory control, ensuring an adequate supply of sterilised items while minimising waste and cost
  • Provide guidance and support to staff in managing complex sterilisation processes and resolving any issues that may arise
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, promoting innovation and implementing best practices to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of sterilisation processes
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and identify training needs to support the professional development of the sterilisation team

About you

  • A Certificate III in Sterilisation Services or currently enrolled – essential
  • Extensive knowledge of the requirements of the Central Sterilising Department- essential
  • At least five (5) years experience in nursing- essential
  • Experience working in a Central Sterilising department or Perioperative environment – essential
  • Previous experience as a Nurse Unit Manager (acting or permanent) - desirable
  • Postgraduate certification in leadership or management – desirable
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards related to sterilisation
  • Strong understanding of budget management and sustainability
  • Ability to effectively manage a team, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Proactive problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills
