About the role

Mater has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Services Manager to work in the team in a permanent full-time basis. This role is responsible for ensuring that the equipment, buildings and grounds of the Mackay Private Hospital and associated facilities are fully compliant to legislative and industry standards and remain operational for the services they need to provide.

The successful candidate will oversee internal and external resources and contractors to implement the maintenance program. You will prepare and manage the maintenance budget, ensuring asset lifecycle management aligns with business needs and growth. The role will report to the Director of Engineering and Maintenance and you will collaborate closely with the General Manager and Finance & Operations Manager.

Salary range: $124,285.00 per annum plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

Position

  • Identify maintenance requirements for buildings, grounds, plant, and equipment with regard to risk management and safety regulations
  • Establish and maintain maintenance programs that meet relevant standards and health and safety requirements
  • Monitor plant and equipment performance to minimize costs and plan for asset replacement
  • Meet customer requirements for operational maintenance needs as defined in the Engineering Service Level Agreement
  • Develop a positive departmental culture with internal and external customers
  • Source and manage external contractors to meet maintenance and development needs, including contract preparation, monitoring performance, and maintaining a contracts register
  • Oversee and coordinate delegated engineering projects
  • Operate and manage the electronic maintenance system to minimize operational inconvenience and ensure plant is maintained according to standards
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives to ensure excellence in consumer services and patient care
  • Actively work on building related issues within current skillset and support team members to achieve the best outcomes for the site
  • Ensure proper training and support for Engineering team members
  • Participate in an on-call roster providing 24x7 maintenance support

Organisation

  • Ensure all staff and contractors adhere to Workplace Health & Safety requirements
  • Foster a customer satisfaction-focused environment and participate in meetings as required
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and professional development
  • Adhere to all Mater policies and undertake other duties as directed

Leadership and People Management

  • Ensure adherence to Mater’s Code of Conduct and Behavioural Standards
  • Manage team recruitment, induction, and separation in line with policies
  • Provide training and development opportunities for team members
  • Conduct performance reviews and career development conversations
  • Maintain a cooperative work environment with open communication
  • Ensure effective succession planning and manage staff time records

Cost Centre Management

  • Develop and manage cost centre budgets, adhering to approved parameters
  • Approve operating transactions in line with Mater’s Delegations
  • Review resources and practices to minimize expenditure while maintaining service delivery
  • Monitor operational and project costs for the cost centre

About you

To be considered for this role, you will have the following:

Mandatory

  • Engineering, trade or equivalent experience in managing a maintenance service in a healthcare setting;
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of building services and plant and equipment maintenance;
  • Experience in managing contractors;
  • Experience in managing shall to medium size projects;
  • Analytical and problem solving attributes as it relates to building infrastructure
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills;
  • Sufficient business acumen to develop and work within budgetary constraints and compile business proposals;
  • A comprehensive understanding of Workplace Health and Safety regulations and Risk Management techniques;
  • Proven leadership skills and effective time management practices; and
  • Current drivers licence.

Desired

  • Qualifications in Engineering and/or Asset and Maintenance Management.
