About the role

Catherine’s House is Australia’s first integrated mental healthcare centre for mothers and fathers to tackle depression, anxiety and other issues experienced by new parents.

We have an exciting permanent, full-time position available for an experienced Mental Health Nurse looking to join the team! This role is a shift working role working a combination of 12hr shifts across a 7-day period.

With one in five mums and up to one in ten fathers experiencing depression, anxiety and other mental health issues before or after the birth of a child. Catherine’s House Inpatient Unit provides inpatient mental health treatment during the postnatal period for parents who are experiencing moderate to severe mental illness

Salary range: $54. 44 - $58.30 per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

As the Clinical Nurse, you will:

  • Provide high standards of service delivery by ensuring mental health nursing practice is contemporary, individualised, safe, recovery-focused and evidence based.
  • Provide contemporary mental health care to mothers or primary carers.
  • Support consumers to develop parenting skills and improved early attachments with their baby.
  • Practice in accordance with relevant legislation, Acts and agreements, workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination practices.
  • Role model high quality mental health nursing care in accordance with the health care mission of the Sisters of Mercy.
  • Provide nursing leadership to the wider team.
  • Promote positive team culture through leading by example.
  • Contribute to a supportive working environment by being approachable, respectful, working co-operatively with all team members and providing mentorship to less experienced clinicians.
  • Provide service users with a positive experience by being responsive to individual needs, building therapeutic relationships and role modelling appropriate behaviour.
  • Assist the Nurse Unit Manager and others in activities to evaluate and ensure effective functioning of the service such as actively contributing to the strategic planning, and reviewing of clinical programs, interventions, outcome data and key performance indicators as they relate to the mother and baby unit.
  • Play an active role in your own professional development and complete any role specific and organisational training as required.
  • Undertake a portfolio consistent with skill level and level of practice.

About you

Essential

  • AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse and a current annual practicing certificate.
  • Are an Authorised Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) in Queensland or you have worked primarily in a mental health setting for at least two (2) years, thereby enabling you to apply for recognition as an AMHP after completion of relevant training.
  • Recent experience working in an acute mental health unit.
  • The successful applicant has or is willing to work towards specialist mental health nursing and/or perinatal and infant mental health qualifications

Desirable

  • Experience working in Perinatal Mental Health is highly desirable
  • You are a Credentialed Mental Health Nurse with the ACMHN or you are willing to work towards same.
