Mater Research are looking for a Senior Manager Research Development & Impact to join the team! This permanent, full-time role will be based at our South Brisbane campus.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

The Senior Manager Research Development & Impact delivers on Mater Research’s strategy in relation to increasing research funding attraction, streamlining grant establishment processes, supporting biomedical-clinical research integration, and building the profile of research at Mater with key internal and external partners. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Tell the story of Mater Research’s activity and impacts to our key stakeholders, including philanthropic foundations and University partners.
  • Guide our organisation’s understanding of our performance through analysis and reporting of key metrics, and help us identify where we can do more
  • Supporting our researchers to be prepared for funding opportunities, so they can  produce grant applications with a high change of success
  • Lead the Research Development and Impact team, which focuses on:
    • Pre- and post-award grant support and administration, in liaison with internal and UQ colleagues
    • Building our reputation through promotion of Mater researchers for key prestigious awards
    • Administering our portfolio of internal research funding support
    • Coordinating key research academic forums, meetings and events, including training and networking opportunities
    • Facilitating Honorary or Academic Title Holder appointments within our related UQ organisational unit (MRI-UQ)
    • Liaising with other Mater teams to provide seamless support to researchers
    • Developing pathways to embed Consumer Engagement in research

About you

The successful candidate will be highly motivated to help us succeed. Ideally,

  • You hold a research higher degree (PhD or Masters), which will help you to understand the perspective of our researchers
  • You’re a committed leader and are keen to continue building capacity and great work practices in our small but capable team, getting the best from everyone
  • You understand competing priorities and you’re agile in responding to changing needs of a dynamic organisation
  • You have extensive and current knowledge of the national and international health and medical research sector, including familiarity with major funding schemes and the broad requirements of the regulatory environment that health and medical research exists within
  • You are a great communicator, able to modify your approach depending on the team members or stakeholders you’re working with
  • Your written communication is high quality, and you’re able to produce polished, high-level reports for a range of purposes
  • You have experience engaging at a high level with the academic community and relevant external sector stakeholders (e.g., industry, government, community partners). Ideally, you’ve had proven success in using this engagement to develop collaborative partnerships either directly or indirectly
  • You’re passionate about health and medical research and making a contribution through this key senior role in our organisation.
