About the role
Mater Rockhampton is looking for a Pastoral Care Practitioner to join our team of compassionate listeners on a permanent part-time basis for 15-20 hours a week.
The Pastoral Care Practitioner will contribute to the provision of high-quality pastoral care for patients and their families. The Pastoral Care Practitioner supports the Mission Integration Manager and/or Pastoral Care Coordinator, visiting clergy and staff to ensure that the spiritual and emotional needs of patients and their families are met.
Salary range: $34.02-$35.66 per hour plus 12% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
You will be responsible for:
- Making available religious or spiritual comfort and support to patients, whilst respecting individual beliefs and practices of other denominations and faiths
- Providing awareness to patients and their families of the Pastoral Care services and accessibility
- Supporting the Hospital Mission Integration Manager in embedding the Mater Mission and Values, and those of the Sisters of Mercy, by coordinating, assisting and/or participating in events, ceremonies and/or rituals as required
- Collaborating with all staff in the provision of holistic care
- Actively participating in providing adequate provision of Pastoral Care services in a facility that operates continuously over seven (7) days a week where required
- Verbally communicating to clinical staff any acquired information relating to physical discomfort and/or care, shared by a patient or their family member
- Assisting with the co-ordination of memorial services for deceased patients
- Undertaking pastoral supervision to appropriately reflect on enhancing personal responses to ministry events and access continuing education for ministry
- An ability to provide support (at times) to the Mission role also, would be advantageous.
About you
To be considered suitable for this position, you will have or be progressing towards a Clinical Pastoral Education qualification and/or studies in theology/religious education or counselling/psychology. You will also ideally have:
- Previous experience providing Pastoral Care support in clinical or equivalent environments
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and supervision, and have a learner mindset
- Demonstrated ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to build rapport, trust, empathy, or strong relationships
- Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment
- Respect and sensitivity in ministry to persons of various religious, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, life philosophies and faith traditions
- Competent digital information and technology literacy
