About the role

Mater Hospital is looking for a permanent part time (8 hours p/week), Physician in Adolescent and Young Adult medicine at the Mater Young Adult Health Centre Brisbane (MYAHCB). The primary duties are to provide outpatient care for young people experiencing a complex or chronic illness.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

Duties will include:       

  • Deliver developmentally appropriate medical assessment and management for adolescents and young adults with complex health needs.
  • Support early identification and management of co-occurring physical, mental health, and neurodevelopmental conditions.
  • Contribute to improved health and recovery outcomes through coordinated multidisciplinary care.
  • Support timely access to assessment and treatment for young people referred to YASU.
  • Contribute to efficient clinic flow, collaborative care planning, and clear communication with referrers and partner services.
  • Participate in service development initiatives that improve accessibility and quality of care for young adults.
  • Contribute to sustainable service delivery through appropriate use of clinical resources and adherence to billing and documentation requirements.
  • Support efficient utilisation of clinic capacity and multidisciplinary services.
  • Work collaboratively within the YASU multidisciplinary team including psychology, allied health, nursing, and social work.
  • Contribute medical expertise to shared care planning and case discussions.
  • Support a trauma-informed, youth-centred approach to care.

About you

To be eligible for the position, you will have:

  • Qualification as Adolescent and Young Adult Consultant and current AHPRA registration
  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills for adolescents and young adults with complex and co-occurring health needs.
  • Ability to engage young people using developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed, and youth-friendly communication.
  • Collaborative multidisciplinary teamwork and shared care planning.
  • Risk assessment and management, including mental health, substance use, and safeguarding concerns.
  • Clinical documentation, care coordination, and communication with referrers and external services.
  • Ability to manage clinical complexity and competing priorities within a dynamic service environment.
  • Knowledge of adolescent and young adult development and the impact on health, behaviour, and engagement with care.
  • Understanding of common conditions affecting young people including mental health disorders, substance use, neurodevelopmental conditions, and chronic illness.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care, recovery-oriented practice, and youth-centred service models.
  • Knowledge of relevant clinical governance, safeguarding, and mandatory reporting requirements.
  • Understanding of multidisciplinary models of care and integrated health service delivery.
