About the role

Mater Townsville is seeking experienced Registered Nurses ready to take the next step in their career by transitioning into a Clinical Nurse role within our Medical Ward. This opportunity is offered as permanent part-time basis working 0.8FTE. To be considered for this opportunity, this role requires participation in a 24/7 rotating roster including morning, afternoon, and night shifts.

The Medical Unit offers a variety of opportunities to care for patients that have specialised care needs across 40 beds. This includes 20 acute care telemetry beds, oncology, hematology, high flow respiratory and general medicine. The Medical Unit is a supportive team of Nurses, Doctors and Allied Health staff who together care for patients, carers and family whilst they are at Mater hospital.

Salary range: $54.44 - $58.30 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

As a valued member of the team you will:

  • Achieving optimal patient outcomes throughout the patient journey and the continuum of care
  • Demonstrating exceptional clinical expertise and knowledge of emergency procedures and the management of patients seeking outstanding care
  • Maintaining current knowledge and skills to ensure continued professional growth
  • Supporting the Nurse Unit Manager in implementing strategies to ensure that quality and risk management are integrated into service provision
  • Lead, participate and collaborate with other key stakeholders in the design and implementation of continuous improvement activities and models of care for enhanced service provision.
  • Liaise with other senior nursing roles and multidisciplinary teams to ensure strong communication networks are maintained.
  • Identify and actively communicate future issues and new directions for the service.
  • Escalate issues impacting on clinical practice and care delivery.
  • Establishes and promotes effective model of care with family that ensure continuity of care.

About you

As the successful candidate you will have: 

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse (no restrictions)
  • Extensive demonstrated experience in a medical ward, with advanced clinical competency and experience
  • Minimum three years’ post-registration experience in a medical or high-acuity environment
  • Postgraduate qualification in critical care (or working towards) is desirable
  • You will have strong leadership ability and experience, as well as excellent time management skills
  • A strong work ethic, positive attitude and willingness to role model and promote the Mater values
  • Demonstrated high level of communication (written and verbal) and the ability to communicate with your team as an effective senior leader
