Apply now Job no: 505693
Work type: Fixed Term
Location: South Brisbane
Categories: Medical Officers

About the role

Mater Mothers Hospital is a premier women’s health facility and Queensland’s largest maternity care provider, serving as a referral centre for complicated obstetric and MFM cases. A busy general gynaecology service compliments the maternity service, providing the women of Southeast Queensland access to expert ambulatory, major vaginal, abdominal and advanced laparoscopic surgeries. Mater Health is excited to offer a unique training opportunity for a Fellow in O&G in 2027. Recognising the limited opportunities for Senior Registrars to transition into a specialist role, we are offering a 12-month position for one exceptionally talented new Fellow to join our service.

This role provides a new Fellow the opportunity to practice independently as a Specialist but within a team structure of care, supported by senior colleagues.  The position would ideally suit a new Fellow intending to pursue a career in general obstetrics and gynaecology in a public, private or mixed public-private capacity. The co-located Mater Mother’s Private and Mater Private Hospital Brisbane provide ideal opportunities for private practice.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

This position offers excellent experience in tertiary level antenatal and intrapartum care in the largest maternity hospital in Australia. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work within Mater’s own private practice model, in addition to operating lists in Brisbane’s busiest general gynaecology unit. The role involves working collaboratively with medical, midwifery and allied-health colleagues to help us deliver consistent, evidence-based, high-value health care.

There will also be an opportunity to participate in the Mater’s Flying O&G Service, comprising week-long gynaecology-focused rotations to rural and regional Queensland.

The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the teaching of junior Registrars, residents and students, and to be actively involved in the unit’s education, audit, risk management, administrative and research activities.

About you

New Fellows (who have FRANZCOG or are expected to attain FRANZCOG in early 2026) are encouraged to apply. Hours of employment will be negotiable to facilitate private work or other commitments.
