About the role
The Mater Mothers’ Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Neonatal Clinical Nurse Specialist to join their Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This is a maximum-term , 8-week position offered on a part-time basis, based at our South Brisbane Campus.
The Neonatal Clinical Nurse Specialist is a Registered Nurse with advanced expertise in supporting nursing and midwifery teams to deliver high-quality, patient and family-centred care.
This role provides clinical leadership across practice, education, research, and patient safety, acting as a key resource within the critical care environment. The position coordinates care and works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the highest standards of care for vulnerable neonatal patients.
Salary range: $68.86 - $74.76 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
To provide clinical support 24 hours per day for High risk/complex neonatal patients and their families across MMH.
Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team with the aim to keep the mother baby dyad together when baby is requiring additional care/monitoring or observations.
Provide organisational awareness of the most at-risk infants/families and to communicate this to leadership within business hours and afterhours management including at medical handover and safety huddles.
Provide direct patient care when required to facilitate clinical transfers of babies on postnatal floors to different areas for care or investigations.
Reviewing of babies identified with additional needs, care requirements or follow-up before discharge from postnatal floors.
Support palliative care infants, their families and midwifery and nursing staff with assessment, symptom management and coordination of care.
Proficiency in completing baby checks for babies on the postnatal floors before discharge
Demonstrate competency in the delivering of advanced clinical skills (e.g. PIVC insertion)
Educate the multi-disciplinary team on specifics of neonatal care to improve care outcomes and family experience
Assist with neonatal programs across MMH (NBS)
Support the neonatal team with provision of antenatal counselling for non-case managed women with high-risk pregnancies
About you You will have extensive experience practicing as a Neonatal Nurse with complex and unwell babies with the ability to provide expert clinical advice. You will bring extensive leadership experience within a in a complex hospital environment paired with excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Essential qualifications
Current registration with APHRA.
Minimum of 5 years+ experience in Neonatal Critical care.
Neonatal qualification (graduate certificate or higher)
Desired qualifications
Experience in clinical leadership
Experience in quality improvement or research
Master’s qualification or working towards
