About the role
Mater is looking for a Psychologist to join our Queensland Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability and Autism Health (QCEIDAH)! This maximum term 12 month contract is a part-time 22.8 hours per week position and will be based at our South Brisbane campus.
Salary range: $66.58 - $71.64 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
Provide independent Psychology specific assessment, review and management of patients, with option to provide short term intervention and follow up for individuals 16 years and over with IDD and complex medical and psychosocial needs
Apply knowledge and experience in assessment of intellectual and developmental disability (including autism) assessment and intervention
Adjust and adapt therapies to accommodate the needs of the person and or their support people
Apply knowledge and experience in principles of positive behaviour support and functional behavioural analysis
Work across private and public psychology clinic
Contribute to Psychology specific development of curriculum to post graduate psychology students and build relationships with potential universities to provide lectures that increase knowledge of psychology students In health and mental health related issues in IDD (including autism)
Collaborate with other MDT members to formulate high quality treatment plans determined through MDT and psychology specific assessment
Advocate for individuals and provide support in self-advocacy to promote best outcomes and high-quality health
Work in partnership with existing health and/or NDIS teams to ensure care planning is comprehensive and duplication of services is avoided
Develop and provide education to mental health services and other health professionals regarding best practice approaches to working with people with IDD
Contribute to capacity building in the health workforce by providing education, mentoring and observership options
To provide support and education to ensure excellent care and provision of service is provided to patients with IDD
Contribute to development and provision of resources and provide support to individuals, families, support people and health professionals to access appropriate education and information related to the individual’s condition
About you
Must have Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and clinical endorsement in psychology
Experience in working with individuals with intellectual disability and autism
Must be approved to supervise students on extern placement and registrars
Understanding of positive behaviour support principles and ability to review PBSP
Preparation and delivery of education to health professionals about psychological assessments and therapy in IDD population
Demonstrated psychology expertise and the ability to clinically make decisions independently in delivery of evidence-based assessments and therapy to people with IDD
Proven experience and ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team, establish priorities, exercise initiative, and deliver outputs within agreed timeframes
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability and experience in establishing and developing key relationships with stakeholders
Ability to work autonomously and provide independent professional judgement and expertise in problem solving and clinical management
Demonstrated experience and commitment to professional development and quality improvement and /or research
Demonstrated commitment to work, health and safety and positive patient experience
