About the role
Mater Mothers’ Hospital is seeking a Neonatal Education Fellow to join the team in a 12-month maximum-term, full-time position .
This unique opportunity combines advanced neonatal clinical practice with education, simulation and service leadership. Working across Mater Mothers’ Hospital and Mater Education, you will contribute to the delivery of exceptional neonatal care while shaping the future of neonatal education and multidisciplinary learning.
As part of this role, you will support the delivery of family-centred developmental care across the Neonatal Critical Care Unit (NCCU), contribute to research and quality initiatives and lead innovative simulation and educational experiences that strengthen capability across teams.
Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
Clinical Leadership & Neonatal Care
Delivering high-quality, evidence-based neonatal care as part of the neonatology roster under consultant supervision
Providing leadership within multidisciplinary teams to support family-centred developmental care across the Neonatal Critical Care Unit and broader service areas, including outpatient settings
Collaborating with neonatal, paediatric and multidisciplinary teams across Queensland to support seamless and integrated care delivery
Supervising and supporting registrars, resident medical officers, neonatal fellows and neonatal nurse practitioners
Contributing to service improvement, clinical governance, patient safety and quality initiatives
Supporting neonatal research, scientific writing and evidence-based practice
Education & Simulation
Leading, facilitating and coordinating simulation-based education within the Neonatal Critical Care Unit
Providing medical leadership and facilitation across Mater Education programs, including advanced neonatal resuscitation education (neoResus)
Designing and delivering innovative interdisciplinary education experiences that build capability across teams
Coordinating and supporting the Program for Advanced Neonatal Education in Queensland (PANEQ)
Developing expertise in simulation methodology, debriefing and contemporary clinical education practice
Supporting OptiSim and broader simulation initiatives as required
About you
You are a collaborative and future-focused clinician who is passionate about neonatal care, education and developing others. You thrive in complex clinical environments and are motivated by opportunities to influence care delivery, build capability and contribute to better outcomes for babies and families.
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
Current registration as a medical practitioner with AHPRA with no conditions
Experience in a tertiary neonatal unit at senior registrar, neonatal fellow or equivalent level
Strong knowledge of neonatal and perinatal medicine within a tertiary teaching hospital environment
Demonstrated commitment to evidence-based practice, quality improvement and patient-centred care
Experience in simulation education and delivering clinical education programs
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build strong multidisciplinary relationships
Strong leadership capability and sound clinical judgement
Reliability, integrity, compassion and commitment to continuous learning
Desirable:
Undertaking Neonatal and Perinatal Medicine training with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians
Postgraduate qualifications in education (including currently enrolled candidates)
