About the role

Join our Clinical Education team and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of perioperative nursing in this permanent, full-time opportunity based at South Brisbane.

This position offers the opportunity to influence clinical practice, support workforce capability and contribute to the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care across Mater Perioperative Services. Working alongside an experienced education team, you will help develop confident, competent Scrub Scout nurses through innovative education, simulation and clinical facilitation.

Salary range: $57.48 – $61.55 per hour plus superannuation andaccess to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

As a Clinical Facilitator – Scrub Scout within Clinical Education, you will work collaboratively with the Education Coordinator, Assistant Director Clinical Services, Nurse Unit Managers and multidisciplinary team to develop and maintain a highly skilled perioperative workforce.

You will be primarily responsible for:

  • Supporting the professional development of nursing staff through clinical teaching, coaching, mentoring and competency-based education
  • Facilitating orientation, transition and specialty education programs for new and existing Scrub Scout staff
  • Coordinating and delivering education initiatives that align with departmental priorities, organisational objectives and contemporary perioperative practice
  • Conducting clinical competency assessments, performance reviews and education needs analyses to support safe and effective clinical practice
  • Developing, implementing and evaluating education programs, simulation activities and learning resources that meet identified workforce and service needs
  • Supporting the implementation of evidence-based practice, new technologies, equipment and evolving models of perioperative care
  • Collaborating with clinical leaders to promote quality improvement initiatives, clinical governance, patient safety and continuous service improvement
  • Monitoring compliance with mandatory education requirements, specialty competencies and the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards
  • Contributing to the development, implementation and review of clinical policies, guidelines and standard operating procedures
  • Acting as a clinical resource and role model, fostering a positive learning culture that promotes professional accountability, lifelong learning and excellence in patient-centred care

About you

You are an experienced perioperative nurse who is passionate about education, developing others and delivering excellence in patient care. You enjoy coaching clinicians, supporting workforce capability and driving evidence-based practice within a dynamic perioperative environment.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of three years' recent clinical experience working as a Scrub Scout Registered Nurse or Clinical Nurse within the perioperative environment. Experience across multiple surgical specialties is highly regarded, with robotic surgery experience highly desirable.

You will also demonstrate:

  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  • Postgraduate qualifications in Perioperative Nursing, Clinical Education or a related discipline (or working towards)
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical facilitation, preceptorship, coaching and competency assessment
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122/TAE40116), or a willingness to obtain
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Well-developed organisational, time management and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams while also managing competing priorities independently
  • A commitment to evidence-based practice, quality improvement and patient safety
  • A strong focus on professional development, lifelong learning and supporting others to achieve clinical excellence
