At Mater Education, great learning starts with exceptional design. We're looking for a creative and collaborative Instructional Designer to develop engaging, high-quality digital learning experiences that inspire students and support outstanding educational outcomes.

About the role

Reporting to the Team Leader – Education Systems, you will design and develop innovative digital learning resources that inspire learners and support exceptional educational outcomes.

Working closely with Program Owners, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and Teachers, you'll lead the design and development of innovative learning resources that are learner-centred, interactive and aligned with contemporary educational best practice. From sourcing and creating digital content to designing meaningful learning activities, you'll play a key role in ensuring our online learning experiences are engaging, accessible and aligned with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and instructional design principles.

Salary range: $108,207 - $117,732 per annum plus superannuation andaccess to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

As our Instructional Designer, you'll create engaging, learner-centred digital learning experiences that support exceptional educational outcomes by:

  • Designing, developing and maintaining high-quality e-learning content and digital learning resources using contemporary instructional design principles.
  • Developing online courses, assessments, quizzes and multimedia learning content within the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Collaborating with Program Owners, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Teachers and key stakeholders to create engaging, effective and compliant learning solutions.
  • Providing expert advice on instructional design, e-learning development, authoring standards and digital learning best practice.
  • Monitoring, evaluating and continuously improving online learning resources, templates, user experience and course effectiveness.
  • Troubleshooting learning content and LMS-related issues while supporting ongoing system enhancements and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Building strong relationships with stakeholders, managing competing priorities and delivering high-quality customer service throughout the design and development process.
  • Ensuring all learning resources align with contemporary educational practice, Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) requirements and Mater Education quality standards.

About you

You're a creative and collaborative learning designer who is passionate about developing engaging digital learning experiences. You enjoy partnering with subject matter experts to transform complex information into meaningful, learner-centred content that supports student success.

You'll also bring:

  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing engaging e-learning resources and digital learning experiences.
  • Sound knowledge of contemporary adult learning principles and the ability to apply instructional design methodologies to a range of learning solutions.
  • Strong writing, proofreading, editing and formatting skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Highly developed analytical, problem-solving and creative thinking skills.
  • The ability to work independently while managing multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the confidence to work collaboratively with a diverse range of subject matter experts.
  • The ability to deliver high-quality learning resources within agreed project timelines while maintaining consistency with organisational templates and standards.

It would be great if you also have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Instructional Design, e-Learning, Education, Information Technology or a related discipline (or equivalent demonstrated experience).
  • Three to five years' experience designing learning materials for diverse audiences across varying levels of complexity.
  • Experience developing online learning within a vocational education, healthcare or Registered Training Organisation (RTO) environment.
  • Knowledge of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), adult education principles and contemporary digital learning technologies.
