Mater is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead the delivery of end-to-end payroll services across our diverse and complex workforce. Reporting to the Director of People Operations, you will provide strategic and operational leadership to a team of payroll professionals, ensuring payroll is delivered accurately, compliantly and on time while driving continuous improvement and transformation initiatives.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits!  

What you’ll be doing 

Reporting to the Director – People Operations, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading end-to-end payroll operations across Mater entities
  • Ensuring payroll accuracy, compliance and service excellence
  • Driving process improvement, automation and payroll transformation initiatives
  • Managing payroll governance, audits, risk and compliance activities
  • Monitoring payroll performance, controls and financial reconciliations
  • Leading payroll system enhancements, upgrades and implementations
  • Building strong partnerships across People & Culture, Finance, Technology and operational leadership teams
  • Coaching and developing a high-performing payroll team, including two Payroll Operations Leads and a Payroll Compliance Manager

About you 

You are a collaborative and influential payroll leader with extensive experience managing payroll operations within a large, industrially complex organisation.

  • Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation and enterprise agreements
  • Experience leading payroll transformation, systems implementation and process improvement initiatives
  • Strong governance, compliance, audit and risk management capability
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
  • Experience leading and developing high-performing teams
  • Advanced analytical and reporting skills, ideally including experience with Power BI, SQL or similar tools

A relevant qualification in Business, Human Resources, Finance or Payroll will be highly regarded.
