About the role
Mater Hospital Brisbane is seeking an experienced Senior Administration Officer to join our Emergency Department on a permanent part-time basis (32 hours per week) across a 24/7 roster.
Based at our South Brisbane campus, our Emergency Department is a busy, 24-hour service providing comprehensive emergency care for adolescents and adults. The department cares for patients presenting with a wide range of acute medical, surgical, oncology, orthopaedic and gynaecological conditions, supported by experienced emergency clinicians, nurses, registrars and multidisciplinary teams.
As a Senior Administration Officer, you will be an integral member of our Emergency Department administration team, ensuring the department operates efficiently around the clock. Working across a 24/7 roster, you will help coordinate patient admissions, support triage and clinical teams, and contribute to safe, timely patient flow throughout the department. With nine administration shifts operating each day, this role is essential to delivering an exceptional experience for both patients and clinicians while supporting the fast-paced environment that emergency care demands.
Salary range: $39.79 - $44.25 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
As a Senior Administration Officer, you will provide high-quality administrative support that enables the Emergency Department to deliver safe, efficient and patient-centred care. You will:
- Provide reception and frontline administrative support across the Emergency Department, including triage and patient admissions.
- Ensure patients are accurately and efficiently registered, admitted and directed to the appropriate treatment area.
- Support clinical teams by maintaining smooth administrative workflows that contribute to effective patient flow.
- Perform senior administrative duties including bookings, record management, patient payments, data quality activities and clinical administration tasks.
- Assist with rostering, resource coordination and general operational support within the department.
- Support onboarding of new team members and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
- Build positive relationships with patients, visitors and multidisciplinary teams while delivering exceptional customer service.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, training and departmental projects as required.
About you
You are an organised, adaptable and customer-focused administration professional who thrives in a fast-paced healthcare environment and enjoys supporting teams to deliver outstanding patient care. You will bring:
- Demonstrated experience in a senior administration role, ideally within a hospital or healthcare environment.
- Ability to prioritise competing demands and remain calm and efficient in a busy, 24/7 Emergency Department.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a genuine commitment to exceptional customer service.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail, with excellent organisational skills.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications and health information systems (or similar).
- Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- A proactive approach with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to use initiative.
- Certificate or tertiary qualification in Business Administration (or similar) will be highly regarded.
