About the role:

Our multidisciplinary team delivers a wide range of medical services contributing to a healthy, safe, and inclusive campus environment. Under the leadership of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, we are seeking a new Director, Medical & Counselling to join the centre and our executive team. This role is essential to leading the strategic direction, governance and operation excellence of the medical centre. As a key advisor to university leadership, the Director will provide expert guidance on health-related policy, risk management, and program development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide professional and clinical leadership to a multidisciplinary team
  • Ensuring the high-quality delivery of integrated services that support student success and staff wellbeing.
  • Drive proactive health and wellbeing initiatives across the University community.
  • Advise senior leadership on emerging health issues, risks, and policy development.
  • Manage critical incidents and urgent health care issues with professionalism and agility.
  • Maintain awareness of trends in higher education health and wellbeing to position UC as a sector leader.
  • Fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
  • Dedicated time for clinical practice, reinforcing the centre’s commitment to continuity of care and clinical leadership
  • Lead major health-related projects and contribute to university-wide wellbeing strategies.

About you:

You are a strategic thinker and experienced clinical leader with a passion for student’s health and staff wellbeing. You bring a collaborative leadership style, strong governance capabilities, and an understanding of integrated health service delivery in a university or similar setting. Your strong clinical management experience will enable you to be a trusted advisor and leader with an empathetic and collaborative communication style.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified specialist general practitioner with relevant senior management experience
  • Bachelor of medicine/ Bachelor of surgery (MBBS) (or equivalent)
  • Current Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) registration (without conditions, undertakings, reprimands, or notations)
  • Eligible to hold a Medicare provider number in ACT
  • FRACGP – or equivalent (highly desirable)
  • Demonstrated clinical experience with the ability to mentor clinical staff
  • Knowledge of standards and procedure of an accredited medical practice
  • Skills in attending and triaging critical incidents on campus
  • Experience in managing community health risks and critical incidents
