Brief Statement of Duties | |
Brief Statement of Duties: | The Department of Theatre and Dance invites applications for a Tenure Track faculty position in Musical Theatre Voice. This faculty member will also serve in a directorial/leadership role in the musical theatre program as the faculty member who oversees all elements related to musical theatre voice and music direction. The successful candidate will provide and oversee private vocal instruction and instructors, provide and oversee keyboard support for theatre and dance departmental needs, provide and oversee vocal and music direction for productions, develop and teach courses in the theatre and dance curriculum, participate in and develop recruitment strategies and activities, and collaborate closely with faculty, staff, and students in a vibrant and dynamic department. This is a campus based position. |
Minimum Qualifications | |
Required Education: | Doctorate or equivalent terminal degree |
Discipline / Degree Area: | Music, Voice, Vocal Performance, Musical Theatre, or related field |
Required Specialized Training/Certifications: | Proven ability to provide vocal and music direction for musical theatre productions, including working with soloists, ensembles, and orchestras. Proficiency in piano with the ability to accompany students in lessons and coursework. Training in vocology. |
Required Minimum Work Experience: | At least five (5) years of university-level teaching in voice/vocal performance, with preference given to musical theatre subject matter, including curriculum development. Experience mentoring and coaching students for musical theatre/entertainment auditions and professional development. Experience in leading and managing colleagues. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties: | Proficiency in piano and ability to accompany students in departmental productions, lessons, and coursework. Proven ability to vocal and music direct musical theatre productions, including working with soloists, ensembles, and orchestras. Demonstrated expertise in vocal performance and vocal pedagogy with experience in musical theatre repertoire. |
Additional Desirable Qualifications | |
Additional Desirable Qualifications: | Professional experience as a performer, music director, or vocal coach in the musical theatre industry. Previous experience with casting and recruitment in a collegiate or professional setting. Familiarity with vocal health practices, particularly for performers in demanding programs (vocology). Demonstrated success in university-level teaching and curriculum development. Active involvement in professional organizations relevant to voice, musical theatre, and performing arts. |
