Position Title: Dean-Health Sciences and Professional Studies

Department:  College of Health Sciences and Professional Studies

Term of Assignment: Tenure Track

FLSA Status:   Exempt = not eligible for overtime

Salary: Competitive

Travel: 10-25%

Brief Statement of Duties:
Provide dynamic and visionary leadership for the College of Health Sciences and Professional Studies which includes four schools (School of Clinical Sciences, School of Education Leadership and Public Service, School of Health and Human Performance, and School of Nursing), five departments (Criminal Justice, Counseling and Consultation Services, Engineering Technology, Military Sciences, and Social Work), and two Centers (Center for Native American Studies and Center for Rural Health). The Dean will facilitate cooperative and collaborative relationships within the College and with the University and external communities. Ensure that the students receive a high quality education by supporting excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship among faculty. Engage directly in external resource attraction and fundraising efforts. This is a campus based position.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education: Doctorate or equivalent terminal degree

Discipline/Degree Area:  Related discipline found within the College of Health Sciences and Professional Studies.

Required Specialized Training/Certifications:  Professional accomplishments sufficient to warrant an appointment as a tenured professor in the College.

Required Minimum Work Experience:  Five years of administrative and leadership responsibility in a higher education environment, including evidence of innovative and collaborative approaches to leadership and administrative responsibilities.
Experience with budgets, staffing plans, personnel supervision, adaptability to change in higher education (including online and technology integration), strategic planning, and assessment.

1. Educational Background
• Doctorate or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant field within the College of Health Science and Professional Studies.
• Academic credentials, including a strong record of scholarship, teaching, and service that would merit a tenured appointment at the      rank of Professor.
2. Leadership and Administrative Experience
• A minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience in higher education, preferably as a department head/chair, associate dean, dean or similar.
• Experience with budget management, personnel decisions, and strategic planning in a university setting.
• Proven ability to support faculty development, tenure, and promotion.
• Knowledge of accreditation processes and higher education regulations.
Teaching and Student-Centered Focus
• Demonstrated commitment to high-quality undergraduate and graduate education, emphasizing student success, retention, and engagement.
• Familiarity with applied learning, experiential education, and curriculum development initiatives.
Research and Scholarship
• A record of scholarship, research, and/or creative work, with an understanding of how to support faculty in achieving research goals.
• Experience balancing teaching and scholarship roles and recognizing institutional priorities.
Accreditation and Curriculum Development
• Experience with program assessment, accreditation, and academic program review.
• Ability to lead curriculum development that aligns with regional needs and societal trends.
• Ability to foster community partnerships.
Fundraising and Resource Development
• Proven ability to secure grants, donations and partnerships with external stakeholders.
• Experience with alumni relations and donor engagement.
Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
• Demonstrated success in promoting diversity, recruiting diverse faculty/students, and fostering an inclusive academic environment.
• Understanding of the needs of first-generation, rural, and underrepresented students.
