You will identify, design, and implement solutions that enhance member experiences, improve health outcomes, and position HBF as a leader in health innovation. This role requires strategic thinking, collaboration across teams, and a passion for turning ideas into actionable outcomes. While it is a leadership position with one innovation developer reporting to you, it is also a hands-on role requiring proven development skills across a wide range of technologies and languages

About the role

• Shape HBF’s business and technology strategy through emerging technology and value-driven experiments.
• Identify and develop a continuous stream of use cases where emerging technology can contribute to improved performance and member experience.
• Execute HBF’s innovation roadmap, aligning with the company’s vision and purpose.
• Partner with teams across HBF (e.g., Product, Digital, Customer Experience, Data Analytics) to embed innovation into business processes.
• Foster a culture of creativity and experimentation, encouraging teams to challenge the status quo.
• Use human-centered design principles to create products, services, or programs that address critical member needs in “moments that matter” (e.g., chronic disease management, mental health support, preventive care).
• Pilot and scale initiatives that improve accessibility, affordability, and quality of healthcare.
• Explore digital health tools, AI, and data-driven insights to enhance member engagement and health outcomes.
• Build relationships with startups, research institutions, and industry leaders to co-create innovative solutions.
• Define KPIs to evaluate the success of innovation projects, ensuring alignment with HBF’s strategic goals.
• Report on outcomes to senior leadership, demonstrating value to members and the business 

About you

• Tertiary qualification in Computer Science or a related discipline and 5+ years in innovation and/or product development, preferably in healthcare, insurance, or technology.
• Proven ability to translate vision into actionable plans, balancing creativity with commercial acumen.
• Strong stakeholder management skills with a track record of driving cross-functional initiatives.
• Passion for improving health outcomes and delivering exceptional experiences for members.
• Familiarity with agile methodologies, design thinking, and digital transformation.
• Technical knowledge and demonstrable skill in .Net, Web/Mobile App frameworks such as React, Databases, Integration, AWS, and Data and Analytics.
• Desired skills include development capability in Salesforce (Apex) and experience in Artificial Intelligence (Large Language Models, Generative/Agentic AI).
• Excellent problem-solving abilities, with a focus on creating impactful solutions.
• Ability to work autonomously, prioritise tasks, and manage deadlines effectively.
• A positive and approachable individual that can inspire and motivate others by fostering trust and open communication
