About the role:

This is a full-time permanent position (35 hours per week) located in Cabramatta NSW. Starting base annual salary $91,297 plus super, plus access to generous salary packaging options.

This in an internal expression of interest – current Uniting employees are only eligible to apply.

About the opportunity:

As a Therapeutic Practitioner, you will play a crucial role in transforming the lives of families facing significant challenges. Through the Functional Family Therapy – Child Welfare (FFT-CW) model, you will deliver therapeutic, in-home services to families where children are at high risk of neglect or abuse. Your work will be pivotal in keeping children safe, helping families heal, and reducing the likelihood of Out of Home Care (OOHC).

Why This Role Matters: This is a unique opportunity to work directly with families in crisis, offering hope, healing, and practical support. By focusing on strengths, you will empower parents and caregivers to build safer, more nurturing environments for their children. Your role will have a profound impact, not only on the families you work with but on the community as a whole.

Your Role:

  • Casework that changes lives: You’ll carry a caseload of 8 families, delivering evidence-based therapeutic services to help them overcome trauma, build parenting capacity, and reduce the risk of child removal.
  • Culturally inclusive care: You’ll work with families from all backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, offering respectful, culturally responsive support.
  • Collaborative partnerships: You’ll build strong relationships with the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) and other community partners to ensure families receive the comprehensive support they need.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field, along with at least 3 years of experience in clinical casework with children and families.
  • A commitment to strengths-based therapeutic approaches and the ability to work effectively with families facing complex challenges.
  • Knowledge of child protection issues and experience working with diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • A willingness to embrace the FFT-CW model through training and supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and the ability to work flexibly to meet families’ needs.
