As an Inspector Environment, you'll work with the NSW minerals exploration, mining, and petroleum industries to minimize environmental impacts. You'll check that exploration and mining activities follow environmental management and rehab plans, and build positive relationships while enforcing legislation, including:

  • Reviewing environmental info, management, and rehab plans
  • Providing advice about rehab and mine closure issues
  • Suggesting improvements to environmental conditions for development proposals
  • Performing inspections and enforce compliance; educate titleholders on corrective actions
  • Writing reports and briefings for management

A Class C driver's licence is required for travel, including day trips and occasional overnight stays in remote areas.

You should have:

  • Knowledge of mining-related environmental impacts and mitigation techniques
  • Understanding of government planning, exploration, mining, and environmental policies
  • Tertiary qualifications or relevant experience in environmental or natural resources management, sciences, or engineering

Things to know about the role:

  • This role is that of an authorised Inspector appointed in accordance with the Mining Act 1992 and Petroleum (Onshore) Act 1991.
  • Compliance with pre-employment probity screening is mandatory for all roles within MEG and is a condition of engagement.
  • Appointment will be subject to the satisfactory participation in a pre-employment health assessment.
