About the Role
The Finance, Performance, Procurement, Property & Fleet team at Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development have an exciting opportunity for an experienced finance and accounting professional to join their team on an ongoing basis.
As the Manager Finance Control & Reporting, you will lead the financial accounting operations of the Department. You’ll be responsible for delivering accurate financial reporting, advising senior leaders, and ensuring compliance with NSW Treasury directives and accounting standards.
What you’ll be doing:
- Lead day-to-day financial accounting operations, ensuring timely and compliant statutory reporting and submission to NSW Treasury.
- Oversee the monthly close, early close, and year-end financial processes—managing accruals, journals, and reconciliations to support the Department’s annual report.
- Provide expert financial advice and briefings to the Audit, Risk and Governance Committee, CFO, and senior executives across the Department.
- Develop and maintain financial policies, controls, and procedures to ensure compliance with legal and professional standards.
- Manage the relationship with the Audit Office of NSW and oversee the planning, preparation, and follow-up for external audits.
- Lead and mentor a high-performing finance team, supporting their professional growth and maintaining excellence in service delivery.
- Monitor and manage funds and cash flow in collaboration with Business Advisory and NSW Treasury.
About you
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring strong expertise in financial accounting and reporting within a large and complex organisation, along with a deep understanding of accounting standards and NSW Treasury requirements. Your exceptional analytical skills and experience preparing financial reports, strategic briefings, and advice for senior stakeholders will be key to your success. You’ll have a proven track record in leading high-performing teams, managing audit processes, and working collaboratively with auditors.
Essential Requirements include:
- Full Membership of CA / CPA Australia.
- Experience in providing strategic financial analysis, high level financial advice and reporting in an environment of change, evolution and growth.
