About the Role

The Strategy, Media and Ministerial Services Team are looking for a Manager Regional Coordination & Western to join their team on a temporary basis. As the media manager, you will lead the planning, development, and delivery of media activity that supports regional NSW. In this leadership role, you’ll ensure the department remains at the forefront of public conversation by driving both proactive and responsive media strategies.

You will develop and implement strategic media programs that identify opportunities to promote key initiatives while managing emerging issues. You’ll create engaging content for traditional and digital media channels and build a strong media presence that aligns with broader regional goals and government priorities.

A key part of the role involves maintaining trusted relationships with Ministerial offices, media outlets, internal teams, and other NSW Government agencies. At times, the role will represent the department at whole-of-government meetings and liaise with external stakeholders.

You will also:

  • Manage a forward-looking media opportunities calendar to maximise coverage and visibility
  • Work closely with regional development and communications teams to align messaging
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders to enable timely and appropriate media activity
  • Develop and refine internal processes to ensure the media team operates efficiently and effectively

About You

Our ideal candidate is a confident and creative communicator with a sharp news sense and proven experience leading media in a complex environment. You’ll be solutions-focused and know how to get the right message to the right audience.

  • Proactively spot media opportunities and act on them
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships across media, government, and community sectors
  • Represent the department in cross-government forums with professionalism and influence
  • Balance short-term needs with long-term planning through strong organisational skills
  • Lead and develop a high-performing media team
  • Navigate issues and risks with sound editorial judgment and a calm, confident approach
