About the role

Soil Conservation Service is seeking an enthusiastic Field Environment Field Officer to undertake a broad variety of fieldwork activities, technical assessments, and reporting relating to natural area management. There will be opportunities to learn and contribute to the construction of soil and water conservation earthworks including environmental, river, and catchment management projects.

The primary activity for these roles will be delivering natural area management programs, focusing on ground works. To do this you will:

  • Undertake the daily on-site duties of natural area management programs, including on-ground works and working with contractors.
  • Assist senior staff to investigate, develop and scope solutions for natural resource management issues.
  • Assist the project lead with project management tasks to ensure projects are completed within required timeframes, budget and to specifications.
  • Undertake site inspections, scoping and auditing contractor works.
  • Ground work activities may include the following:
    • Fence construction and maintenance works
    • Establishment of revegetation areas and maintenance works
    • Minor maintenance/ repairs
    • Weed Spraying
    • Access Management
    • Scoping of properties 

Essential Requirements 

  • Willingness to learn civil and environmental works project management principles and the operation of earth moving and associated machinery.  
  • Willingness to learn/obtain competencies required to complete civil and environmental works safely – for example first aid training, Agricultural chemical handling or 4WD training.  
  • Current Manual Class C drivers license and willingness to travel and work away from base location
