Land Services Officer

Murray Local Land Services (LLS) is currently recruiting for a Land Services Officer (Seed Services) to undertake activities relating to native seed collection and processing, direct seeding, revegetation and running of a native seedbank at Deniliquin.

  • Full time Temporary position from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026
  • Salary ranging from $97,027 - $107,059.00 pa + super

About the role

The LSO Seed Services role is to help manage the Murray Native Seedbank, seed harvest and direct seeding activities. This involves site inspections, landholder liaison, development of direct seeding quotes, seed sales, establishment and maintenance of seed production areas, seed collection, seed processing, seed storage and seed treatment.  Some project management will be required. You will report to the Seed Services Coordinator (SLSO) and help coordinate the day-to-day workings of up to 6 casual staff.

We are looking for a person who is self-motivated, enthusiastic, a good communicator and has a keen interest in native vegetation restoration. Knowledge of native plants, revegetation techniques and ability to travel is required. Experience in direct seeding, native seed harvest, seed processing and seed storage techniques would be ideal. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist in operation of the native seedbank including developing quotations for customers, processing native seed orders, performing seed withdrawals and updating the seedbank database and other record keeping processes.
  • Undertake native seed collection, seed processing and storage as well as oversee a team of casual staff undertaking seed collection based at Deniliquin.
  • Provide revegetation extension advice to customers including site planning and preparation, species selection, and revegetation methods.
  • Operate a direct seeding machine as part of revegetation restoration works for customers.  Ensure safe operation of machinery and organise for any required maintenance and repairs of equipment.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a native seed production area network.
  • Contribute to the Murray Native Seed Services Business Plan 2024-2029 targets and objectives. 

What you need to have for this role:

  • Driver’s License: A valid license is required and willingness to travel. 
  • An interest in native vegetation and some plant identification skills are preferred.  Experience in native seed collection, processing and/ or direct seeding is advantageous.
  • WHS: Knowledge and experience in WHS safety practices and accountability.
  • Organisational and time management skills: Ability to follow policy and processes including reporting, time management, data management and record keeping.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and strong communication skills: Good communication skills to engage with team members, staff, customers and industry partners who engage with Murray LLS in seed services activities.
  • Project management: Understanding of how to develop and implement projects within budget and deadlines.
  • Computer skills: Basic computer skills, including using Microsoft applications and tablets.  Some GIS mapping skills would be an advantage.
