Local Land Services is currently seeking a Senior Land Services Officer (Farm Forestry) to drive high‑quality advisory, extension and natural resource management services across North Coast NSW.
About the Role
This role provides frontline advisory and extension services to farmers and land managers, with a strong focus on specialised applied forestry extension services to build capability in active native forest management, while contributing to the Private Native Forestry Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting (MER) evidence base.
You will:
- Deliver expert advice on farm forestry to build the capability of landholders, in active native forest management, supporting healthier forests and more productive landscapes.
- Prepare and implement extension plans and contribute to forestry and landscape projects by supporting coordinated delivery and ensuring activities align with program governance and legislative requirements.
- Develop partnerships with industry, community groups, landholders and government organisations to tackle complex landscape and forestry challenges.
- Lead or contribute to emergency response planning, preparedness and recovery when required.
- Undertake field inspections, assessments and data collection, and prepare high-level reports and recommendations.
Farm Forestry Focus
This role plays an important part in the NSW Farm Forestry Program by:
- Supporting private landholders to establish and manage farm forestry systems.
- Promoting the environmental, economic and resilience benefits of integrated forestry on farms.
- Delivering extension activities, field days and tailored support with a focus on Farm Forestry.

About You
To be successful in this role, you must have a passion for sustainable agriculture, strengths in project management, stakeholder engagement, and demonstrated experience providing extension and advisory services to farmers and land managers.
You should be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, collaborating effectively with agricultural stakeholders, and providing technical extension and advisory support to producers.
What you need for the role:
- A degree in agricultural science, environmental management, natural resource management, biosecurity and emergency management, and/or an equivalent level of industry knowledge and experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical forestry concepts and collaborate effectively with key industries to build productive partnerships.
- Organisational skills to plan and deliver field days/meetings or other initiatives across the region
- An understanding of the needs and issues facing landholders and stakeholders in adapting to climate variability, meeting market demands and in achieving sustainable agricultural outcomes.
