About the role

The role of the Permanent Part-time (4 days/week) Level 1/ 2 Diversional Therapist/Recreational Therapist is to work within the Mission and Mission in Action of HammondCare to ensure a high standard of Diversional Therapy/Recreational Therapy service is provided to patients of the Hospital, along with appropriate support and advice to their carers. The Diversional Therapist/Recreational Therapist will participate as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure a patient centred, evidence based, continuous quality improvement work environment that is consistent with the values and ethics of HammondCare and the Diversional Therapy Association of Australia National Council/Australian Recreational Therapy Association (ARTA).

Key Focus Areas

• Provision of effective and efficient Diversional Therapy/Recreational Therapy service to clients and appropriate support and advice to their carers
• Participate as a member of the multi-disciplinary team in improving/maintaining patients’ level of participation in leisure/recreational pursuits.
• Participate as a member of the HammondCare team in the application

Education, Experience and Skills

ESSENTIAL

• Commitment to engage and align with HammondCare’s Christian Mission, Motivation and Mission in Action.
• Bachelor of Health Science (Recreational Therapy) or a Bachelor of Applied Science, majoring in leisure and health or therapeutic recreation as recognized by the Australian Recreational Therapy Association (ARTA).
• Significant practical experience or Extensive Knowledge in providing Diversional Therapy/Recreational Therapy Services in a Rehabilitation, Aged Care or Palliative Care setting. Experience across inpatient and outpatient/ community settings would be desirable.
• A current drivers licence and safe driving record.
• Willingness to travel between HammondCare’s sites and services.
• Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal)
• Demonstrated organisation and time management skills
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Empathy and patience.

DESIRABLE

• Strong administrative and computer skills.
• Experience working in a multi-cultural environment
• An understanding of Work Health and Safety policies and procedures
