Job Summary:

This position is responsible for developing and coordinating the implementation of a program which provides grants to fire districts to purchase capital equipment such as fire engines, radio telecommunications, etc., necessary to respond to public safety emergencies. Will assist State, District and Local government Fire staff with meeting the requirements to apply for and obtain grant funding. Will also respond to wildfires within the assigned district as needed.


This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Responsible for developing and coordinating the implementation of a program which provides grants to fire districts to purchase capital equipment such as fire engines, radio telecommunications, etc., necessary to respond to public safety emergencies.

• Will assist State, District and Local government Fire staff with meeting the requirements to apply for and obtain grant funding.

• Assures district fire crews are trained and equipped to meet the requirements of grant funding. Coordinates and presents required wildland fire training courses to meet NWCG standards to cooperating fire departments and other inter agency partners.

• Respond to wildfires within the assigned district. Suppress fire with appropriate strategies and cost effectiveness. This position will be responsible for Fire operations, field safety, fire personnel and Equipment Management, filling fire operations or support positions within the Incident Command System.

• Drive on State business.

• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

• DFFM's Statutory Firefighting and Fire, Prevention Responsibilities and Authorities. Wildfire Strategy, Tactics, and Fire Behavior and Incident Management/Incident Command System

• Wildland Fire Safety procedures

• National Wildfire Coordinating Group and Arizona State Forester Wildfire Training Standards and Qualification Requirements.

• Prescribed Fire Management and Fire Effects

• State wildland fire business procedures and related inter agency agreements

• Purchasing and contract principles

• Forestry, Natural Resource, and Ecosystem Management

• Emergency response communication systems

Skills in:

• Effective oral and written communication skills

• Instruction techniques to train and teach internal and external personnel in Division applicable subject matter

• Interpret fire weather and fire behavior

• Natural resource inventory skills

• Effective in use of computers and applicable software

Ability to:

• Work and communicate effectively with diverse governmental wildland firefighting agencies and recognize their differences in authorities and capabilities

• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Forestry Division personnel and outside cooperators

• Plan and stay organized

• Remain focused during emergency incidents

• Adhere to State of Arizona and Department of Forestry and Fire Management Standards of Conduct, policies, procedures and practices

• Work weekends and holidays

• Travel on State Business

Selective Preference(s):

NWCG Single Resource Boss or Type 4 Incident Commander

Pre-Employment Requirements:

A valid Arizona Driver's License.
