Job Summary: |
Under the direct supervision of the Pinetop Regional Supervisor, this position will be responsible for providing statewide leadership and supervision over field activities of the Mexican Wolf Recovery Program, which includes providing internal and external statewide coordination on program implementation matters with various interagency cooperators.
Job Duties: |
-Direct Mexican wolf management activities on non-tribal Arizona lands.
-Serve as the Department’s primary statewide program manager and liaison on Mexican wolf issues.
-Supervise Department Mexican Wolf Interagency Field Team staff.
-Manage statewide project operations out of the Pinetop AZ Field Office.
-Plan, manage, organize, prioritize, administer and lead project operations on a statewide basis for the Mexican Wolf Recovery Program.
-Coordinate statewide program updates, annual reports and other required reports.
-Present Mexican Wolf Interagency Field Team recommendations.
-Monitor Mexican Wolf Interagency Field Team compliance.
-Coordinate training as required.
-Participate in internal and public meetings.
-Assist with implementation of program outreach campaigns.
-Work in a proactive manner with local governments, agencies, conservation organizations, program stakeholders and the public.
-Develop and analyze Federal grant work plans, budgets and reports.
-Create and maintain the program's budget and oversee expenditures and budgetary needs.
-Provide support to field activities as needed.
-Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): |
The candidate will have knowledge of Department rules, regulations, policies and procedures; project protocols and procedures specific to the Mexican Wolf Recovery Program; guiding management of wolves among various participating state, federal and tribal agencies; Endangered Species Act and controversial endangered species issues; various regulations and management plans pertaining to wolf management within Arizona and New Mexico; large carnivore biology and management; and program management. The candidate will be skilled in management and organization; administering programs/projects; supervision; managing complex processes; producing project reports/communications; internal and external communication. Candidates will have the ability to manage and lead personnel; provide leadership and guidance with operations that require inter-governmental and inter-jurisdictional coordination; promote collaboration and productivity; navigate complex and controversial matters as well as be able to resolve conflict through communication, influence and negotiation.
Selective Preference(s): |
The preferred candidate will have previous experience working in a social environment with stakeholders, preferably efforts involving endangered species restoration efforts.
Pre-Employment Requirements: |
The candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in wildlife sciences and/or a closely related field and 4 plus years of experience in wildlife research or wildlife management.

Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked or suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
