This announcement is for current Correctional Lieutenants with the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry only.

#1 SPECIAL SELECTION FACTOR(S)-THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIRED:

Employees must currently be a Correctional Lieutenant with Arizona Department of Corrections Rehabilitation & Reentry, have worked a minimum of 12 months at current division/institution by close date of the announcement, and received at least a meets expectations overall rating on most recent performance evaluation.
Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)
The ideal candidate will have public speaking, oral presentation, customer service, recruitment experience and computer experience. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 12 months experience as a Correctional Lieutenant with the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry.

Job Duties:

#3 EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Recruits qualified applicants for the position of Correctional Officer within the Arizona Department of Corrections Rehabilitation and Reentry (ADCRR) in accordance with the established policies and procedures; provides information to candidates, processes applications and conducts testing in a timely and professional manner. Coordinates activities in community to include community visits to various employment departments, educational institutions and other area to attract potential applications. Supervise Correctional Sergeants and train staff, complete daily, weekly and monthly reports. Attends required training. Required to drive on State business. Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment.

This is a "safety-sensitive position" which is defined as any job designated by an employer as a safety-sensitive position or any job that includes tasks or duties that the employer in good faith believes could affect the safety or health of the employee performing the task or others, per A.R.S. 23-493. This position is subject to the provisions of Department Order 522, Drug-Free Workplace.

WORK CONDITIONS: Must be able to work all shifts, as required; exposure to hazards associated with those assigned duties, maintaining security order and discipline of inmates in and outside of correctional institution. Work in adverse weather conditions.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge
Recruitment and interview techniques, ADCRR policies and procedures, ADOA Personnel Rules, personal computer and software, duties of Correctional Officer. Knowledge of; methods and practices of safety, security, custody and discipline of a correctional unit; Federal, State and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing the custody and control of inmate populations; Federal, State and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing the management of employees; methods and techniques of management and supervision; methods and techniques of paraprofessional counseling as applied within the rehabilitative programs of the unit; methods and techniques of training staff in the security practices and procedures; rules and policies governing classification, discipline and due process of the inmate populations; methods and techniques of performing the administrative work appropriate to the assignment; techniques and practice of security procedures, order and discipline as applied to inmates; portable and stationary two-way radio systems used to communicate inside/outside an institution or the network with other institutions; use of self-defense, weapons and related defense and control equipment; policies and procedures of a corrections work setting, Federal and State policies and procedures regarding emergency response.


Skills
Demonstrate effective interpersonal communication skills; relate, identify and interact with applicants of diverse backgrounds. Verbal and written communication skills. Using the radio systems and communication codes. Skill in the use of computer and telecommunications. Proficient in the use of weapons and other defense and control equipment. Skills in managerial, organizational, communicative, motivational, analytical, and problem solving. Skill in conducting research and extracting, compiling, analyzing, evaluating, synthesizing, and presenting information; interpersonal relations as applied to contacts with administrators, managers, employees, and representatives within the agency and other state agencies; skills in prioritizing, typing, mentoring, and decision making.


Ability
Represent ADCRR in a professional manner, conduct evaluations and make oral presentations to groups. Establish and maintain the prescribed security, custody, order and discipline programs of the unit; apply and interpret the Federal and State laws, agency rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing custody and control of inmates; apply methods and techniques of management and supervision; apply and train in the methods and techniques of paraprofessional counseling and crisis intervention of inmates; apply and interpret the communications as required by the duties and assignments in a correctional setting; interpersonal relationships within a correctional setting; maintain a calm and professional temperament during emergency situations; perform administrative work activities appropriate to the assignment.

Selective Preference(s):

Prior customer service and recruitment experience.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Some positions require a medical/physical evaluation, psychological examination, pre-employment drug screening, and a background investigation prior to appointment. A current Arizona driver's license appropriate to the assignment is required at the time of appointment.
