Job Summary:

The Office of the General Counsel’s mission is to provide professional, high-quality legal representation to the Corporation Commission in the performance of its powers, responsibilities, and duties. The matters handled include Commission dockets, open meetings, federal regulatory dockets, litigation, administrative and special projects.

Job Duties:

You will provide legal, administrative, and office support for one to three staff attorneys. Your work will primarily involve the creation, proofreading, editing, and filing of various pleadings, discovery requests and responses, and correspondence, and the calendaring and coordination of litigation deadlines and meetings, along with fact-checking and proofing documents for grammatical integrity and attorney event scheduling. This may include communicating with the public, media, and other government entities. You will also work on special assignments as directed by the Chief Counsel and Deputy Chief Counsel, and provide support and backup coverage for division paralegals and other legal assistants as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Thorough knowledge of Microsoft 365, PDF document management, proficient typing skills with high accuracy, litigation protocols and deadlines in the administrative law context, knowledge of technical legal terms and various legal forms and documents;
Knowledge of administrative law, county, state and federal courts (including appellate briefs) with the ability to research and learn regulations governing areas specific to our jurisdiction;
Experience with legal and administrative requirements for the preparation and filing of legal documents;
Skills in monitoring and anticipating deadlines and performing detailed work with speed and accuracy;
Adept at composing a wide variety of complex legal correspondence, pleadings, rules, legislative measures, etc., accurately conveying all information as the writer intends;
Knowledge and mastery of filing standards for pleadings and briefs and procedures skills and the ability to effectively coordinate filing deadline projects and overlapping case workloads;
Experience in handling and protecting confidential data; and
Advanced skills in MS Word, Outlook, Excel, transcription and other administrative tools;
Teamwork and a desire and ability to learn are crucial aspects to this vital position.

Selective Preference(s):

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in formal legal secretary or related education and several years' prior work experience simultaneously supporting 2 or more attorneys.
