The Arizona Department of Homeland Security was established in 2006 by the Arizona State Legislature to support the mission of providing strategic direction and access to federal homeland security grant program resources that will further enable the stakeholders' collective goals to prevent, protect, mitigate, respond to and recover from terrorist attacks and other critical hazards that affect the safety, well-being and economic security of Arizona.

This position will remain open until filled  

Job Summary:

Primary coordinator/liaison with public safety agencies throughout Arizona with a focus on the southern border. Responsible for developing and maintaining a dashboard to display and give context to data; research and analysis; facilitating meetings; reporting out on action items; and elevating critical information to leadership.

This position will assist with essential internal functions should there be surges at the southern border that necessitate a state response. This position reports to the Deputy Director of Border Coordination.

Job Duties:

• Builds alliances to promote information sharing, data gathering, and policy collaborations across issues and agencies. Develops and maintains collaborative networks within the public safety community (e.g., federal, state, local law enforcement, fire service, and emergency management). Leads meetings, establishes agendas, maintains minutes, and communicates action items to leadership and team members and works closely with other BCO staff to ensure the success of the office

• Leads the coordination of public safety information within the Border Coordination Office. Responsible for streamlining the collection of relevant data, ensuring data points are accurate, and reporting is relevant and timely. Develops and maintains a dashboard to display and give context to data. Synthesizes data points and creates situational reports on trends, emergency threats, and possible solutions

• Assists in the development of program controls, processes, procedures, and reports for the Border Coordination Office

• Researches, analyzes, and monitors public safety policy issues affecting border security

• Participates in general AZDOHS staff activities and performs other duties as assigned

• Represents AZDOHS in task forces, workgroups, and with communities as needed

• Other duties as assigned as related to the position

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge:

• To perform satisfactorily, an individual in this position should have knowledge of federal, state, local, and tribal public safety agencies (including Emergency Management, Fire Service, and Law Enforcement)

• A combination of education (business administration, public administration, criminal justice, or emergency management) and employment experience may suffice

Skills:

• To perform the work satisfactorily, an individual should possess advanced interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, public speaking skills, networking skills, management and administrative skills, typing, note taking, research skills, data gathering and analysis skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office operating systems and software (e.g., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) as well as G-Suite

Ability:

• The desirable candidate for this position will be able to adapt to frequent change, have the ability to prioritize tasks, recognize and be politically sensitive, work in a team environment, handle sensitive documents, possess excellent listening skills, be self motivated/self-driven, leadership skills, ability to travel frequently, ability to operate a motor vehicle, and have a clean driving record

Selective Preference(s):

• Bachelor’s Degree; demonstrated experience tracking and analyzing data; existing relationships with public safety agencies; demonstrated ability to write reports and communicate effectively

• Possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license

Preferred Preference(s):

• Master’s Degree (or in process)

• Secret Clearance (or ability to obtain)

• Bilingual

Pre-Employment Requirements:

• Ability to pass a background check performed by Arizona Department of Public Safety

• Ability to possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License and operate a motor vehicle

• Ability to maintain a clean driving record
