Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking a qualified individual to handle incoming and outgoing legal mail and general mailroom duties at an Arizona State Prison Complex (ASPC).

Job Duties:

- Oversees and participates in the timely collection, sorting, preparation, and distribution of mail
- Operates a state vehicle to pick up and drop off USPS mail
- Responsible for accurate/correct metering, tracking registered, and certified mail
- Oversees and maintains the accuracy of routine official records and reports
- Analyzes available mail services and determines the most cost-effective method
- Drives on State business
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
- Current Federal and State laws and ADCRR policy regarding collection and handling of mail
- Mail Services sufficient to determine the most cost-effective option
- Postal machines operations
- Metering, registering, and certifying of mail
- Routine office/personnel records and reports

Skill in:
- Operating and maintaining a variety of office equipment and postal machines
- Monitoring basic office/personnel record-keeping organization, and filing of documents
- Operating a computer and various software
- Participate in and oversee the handling of objects without injury or accident
- Interact professionally with the public, staff, and inmates
- Perform basic mathematical calculations

Ability to:
- Lift/carry 80 lbs.
- Push/pull 80 lbs.
- Walk/run .25 miles
- Communicate verbally and in writing
- Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships
- Prioritize the workload of the mail unit
- Analyze mail services and determine the most cost-effective method
- Lift and carry boxes and trays of mail
- Work in a prison environment

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation, drug test, and possibly a medical/physical examination.

If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).

Retirement:

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.
