The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is looking for an accountant to join our team as an Accounting Specialist Supervisor. This position supervises and is responsible for the oversight of the accounts payable department. Approves vendor invoices for payment and input claim packets. Researches and problem-solves vendor communications, issues, receivers, and purchase orders. Acts as ACI’s Property Manager for the management and inventory control of all capital and inventory equipment located in the ACI Budget unit. Supervises an inmate workforce and staff to ensure all accounts payable and inmate payroll are met. Ensures vendor payments are made to authorized vendors, for authorized liabilities of the State and properly documented. Is responsible for month-end accruals, correcting general journals, and miscellaneous allocations of overhead. Also conducts miscellaneous analysis and financial statement reviews.

Job Duties:

- Oversees payment of vendor invoices and inmate payroll in a timely manner, verifying the accuracy of general ledger accounts on purchase orders and summary reports
- Reconciles bank accounts to agency accounting systems and general ledger
- Performs and processes fixed asset audits, asset transfers, purchases and disposals to maintain accuracy
- Creates general journals as needed to include accruals, expense reclassifications, and overhead allocations
- Supervises lnmale Payroll and Accounts Payable staff
- Attends meetings and trainings
- Drives on State business
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
- Generally accepted accounting principles, processes and procedures
- Office and accounting terminology
- Accounts payable
- Purchasing
- Inventory concepts and workflow
- Computers and applicable applications, including EPICOR, USAS, and Google suite
- Management and supervision

Skill in:
- Analyzing and interpreting invoices, purchase orders and receivers
- Oral and written communications

- Leaderhip

Ability to:
- Calculate, analyze, reconcile and summarize quantitative data
- Apply accounting, mathematical, and systems concepts to situations encountered in the workplace
- Work in a prison environment
- Learn and adhere to agency policies, procedures, Personnel Rules, and state and Federal laws

Selective Preference(s):

- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- At least three (3) years of work experience in an accounting office dealing with high volume paperwork and high volume of phone calls
- Above average computer skills in accounting systems
- Supervisory or management experience

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation and drug test.

If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).

Retirement:

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.
