WILDLIFE MANAGER FIELD SUPERVISOR
FIELD OPERATIONS DIVISION / REGION 4 / YUMA, ARIZONA BASED
FLSA-EXEMPT / SALARY GRADE 25 / Hiring Salary Range $70,000 - $90,000

Under the direct supervision of the Yuma Regional Supervisor, this position will be responsible for serving as the first line supervisor in a sector which consists of five or more personnel and ensures implementation of Department programs throughout the sector. Also provides law enforcement to ensure wildlife protection, safe watercraft, and off-highway vehicle recreation opportunities.
Job Duties: |
Major duties include:
- Position facilitates effective communication between the sector and Department leadership and coordinates with Regional Program Managers in the development and implementation of quarterly/annual work plan objectives and priorities ensuring alignment with the Department’s mission and resources
- Supervises and directs activities for direct reports to include performance evaluations, coaching and mentoring in policy, procedures, skills and abilities
- Facilitates training and professional development opportunities for sector personnel and conducts and participates in mandatory and enhancement training for law enforcement and other wildlife management programs
- Provides leadership and oversight in the development of sector projects and activities including surveys, monitoring, wildlife population sampling, wildlife habitat protection and enhancements, special operations, outreach, education, and community engagement
- Plans, organizes, administers and leads the operational aspects of the program including budget preparation and development, ensuring within compliance with applicable rules, statutes
- Serves as a primary contact and coordinates with other natural resource and land management agencies, local governments and law enforcement agencies to identify issues, resolve conflicts, and to ensure programs and work efforts are effective and efficient. Supervises first line equipment use and maintenance and implements Department Loss Control Policies

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): |
The position requires knowledge and expertise in enforcing, interpreting, and applying Game and Fish Wildlife Laws and Commission Rules; Arizona Watercraft Laws and Commission Rules; State Off-Highway Vehicle laws and rules and other applicable laws. Must have knowledge in administrative and supervisory principles; wildlife biology, management, and identification; database systems; variety of equipment and modes of transportation and budget analysis. The candidate must be skilled in firearms proficiency; defense tactics; arrest procedures; evidence collection; interrogation and investigative techniques; report writing; wildlife identification and classification; computer operation; wildlife population survey techniques; public speaking; oral and written communication; teaching; outdoor survival and camping; negotiation and conflict resolution. Candidates must have the ability to provide leadership diplomacy as a Department liaison; interview and interrogate suspects; lead staff in the regional enforcement program; prioritization; supervision; delegation; multitasking.
Pre-Employment Requirements: |
Applicant must be a current AZGFD employee.
Applicants must have active Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZPOST) certification.
The candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in wildlife and/or a closely related field.
