he Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) seeks a results-driven leader to join our team as a Deputy Chief for Prison Operations. The Deputy Chief will assist the Chief of Prison Operations in overseeing the management, security, and operational aspects of the Arizona State Prison Complexes. This position will be responsible for ensuring Prison Operations fulfills the Department’s mission and vision, and implements the Strategic Plan, along with other agency initiatives that impact daily operations. This role requires leadership experience, extensive knowledge of prison operations, and the ability to manage large teams in a high-pressure environment.
Job Duties: |
- Provides leadership and direct administrative and managerial supervision of the Correctional Administrator V positions (ADCRR Prison Wardens), and oversees the supervision of all Prison Operations employees, and the management of the inmate population of Arizona State Prison Complexes
- Assists with the strategic planning, operational functions, policy development, and the expenditures of funds related to Prison Operations
- Ensures that the facilities are run efficiently and effectively, and adheres to all policies of the Department, state and federal regulations regarding AZ State Prisons
- Consults/ Collaborates with the Director, Deputy Director, Assistant Directors, Wardens, and other management staff on a wide variety of issues pertaining to all employees, and the inmate population and assists in identifying and instituting corrective action plans, ensuring alignment with the mission, vision, and goals
- Tours/monitors/inspects institutions on a monthly basis to ensure compliance with professional standards, procedures, programs, fiscal, and physical plant operations
- Reviews and ensures compliance with standardized operations
- Participates in emergency management trainings and preparedness exercises
- Conducts research and prepares comprehensive reports and recommendations to the Assistant Director, Deputy Directors, and the Director
- Maintains inmate work contract information
- Responds to inmate letters and letters to the public
- Attends meetings and provides support for the Assistant Director, Deputy Directors, and the Director, to include weekly staff meetings, monthly Wardens meetings and strategic planning meetings
- Participates on oral boards for management promotional opportunities
- Acts as a point-of-contact for the others divisional leadership in their absence
- Drives on state business
- Other duties as assigned

Selective Preference(s): |
Experience as a Senior Administrator responsible for overseeing correctional facilities with varied custody levels
Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice/Corrections, Public Administration, Business Administration, or Sociology/Social Science
Pre-Employment Requirements: |
Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation.
In an effort to maintain a safe environment, all employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.

Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid, class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked or suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
