Job Summary:

Duties and basic tasks include: Performing the inspection, maintenance, and repair of; traffic signals, lighting, bluestake, ITS, tunnel and/or pump stations. Performing at an entry level for the Signal Lighting and Technical Electrical Technical series. This position requires employees to participate in rotation based 24 hour call back program, must be able to respond to duty post within 30 minutes. The employee must be able to posses the ability to work from elevated heights in stressful situations. During weather events that cause or could cause hazardous road conditions, overtime may be required; including working outside of normal reporting hours, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Job Duties:

Signal/Lighting/Electrical Technician 1 (SLATE 1): $25.43/hr. Grade 18

This position is responsible for performing entry level inspections, maintenance, installation and repair of statewide traffic continuous counting stations and/or weigh-in motion (WIM) sites. Including; continually collecting, troubleshooting and analyzing telemetric polling or manual data retrievals of data on a statewide highway network. In addition, conducting and performing short-term traffic counts and special counts on the public roadway system. The requirements of this position include frequent overnight travel and working in various types of inclement weather and environmental factors.

Signal/Lighting/Electrical Technician 2 (SLATE 2): $27.22/hr. Grade 19

This position is responsible for performing intermediate level inspections, maintenance, installation and repair of statewide traffic continuous counting stations and/or weigh-in motion (WIM) sites. Including; continually collecting, troubleshooting and analyzing telemetric polling or manual data retrievals of data on a statewide highway network. In addition, conducting and performing short-term traffic counts and special counts on the public roadway system. The requirements of this position include frequent overnight travel and working in various types of inclement weather and environmental factors.

Signal/Lighting/Electrical Technician 3 (SLATE 3): $30.05/hr. Grade 20

This position is responsible for performing expert level inspections, maintenance, installation and repair of statewide traffic continuous counting stations and/or weigh-in motion (WIM) sites. Including; continually collecting, troubleshooting and analyzing telemetric polling or manual data retrievals of data on a statewide highway network. In addition, conducting and performing advanced level short-term traffic counts and special counts on the public roadway system. The requirements of this position include frequent overnight travel and working in various types of inclement weather and environmental factors.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

KNOWLEDGE

  • Use, care and maintenance of common and specialized tools, equipment and materials related to the trade
  • Plans, sketches/schematics of electrical, electronic, mechanical and utility systems
  • Methods/procedures for installing, repairing, diagnosing, and inspecting traffic counting devices, common safety practices Electrical, electronic, mechanical, and circuit theory

SKILLS

  • Applying and making interpretations of federal, state and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to work activities, safe practices, and public contact
  • Using proper materials, tools, vehicles & equipment to perform work activities within established work methods

ABILITY

  • Follow directions/work independently, plan, coordinate, analyze, and perform multiple tasks in stressful conditions
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair electrical components
  • Train and utilize advanced software systems such a ESRI GIS and Bently Micro station
  • Train and utilize computer systems, traffic control methods, practices, procedures, federal, state, agency laws, rules regulations, policies, procedures pertaining to work activities
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers
  • Apply and interpret procedures and practices established for the work section
Selective Preference(s):

SLATE 1 - High school diploma/GED; Entry Level of electrical/electronics background and troubleshooting; Ability to obtain a Class A CDL

SLATE 2 - High school diploma/GED; Foreman level electrical/electronics background; One year of experience equivalent to a SLATE 1

SLATE 3 - High school diploma/GED; Foreman level electrical/electronics background; One year of experience equivalent to a SLATE 2

Pre-Employment Requirements:

ALL POSITIONS
Valid State Issued driver's license.

SYSTEMS
Valid CDL permit exam at time of appointment and obtain a Arizona Class A Commercial Driver's License within 6 months.

PUMP HOUSE
Valid CDL permit exam at time of appointment and obtain a Arizona Class A Commercial Driver's License within 6 months, with X
endorsement (Hazmat and tanker)

SLATE 1
No experience required

SLATE 2
(Systems/ITS): Level I IMSA Training /Certifications
(Pump House): 1 year Traffic Signals experience or 1 year roadway lighting experience. Confined spaces training.
(Electronics): 1 year traffic signal controllers and testing experience

SLATE 3
(Systems/ITS): Level II IMSA Training/Certifications
(Pump House): 3 years traffic signals experience OR 3 years roadway lighting experience. Confined spaces
