Job Summary: |
ADEQ is seeking a passionate water quality professional to aid us in further developing the Ambient Monitoring and Pesticides Program in the State of Arizona. The position will require intermediate knowledge, skills and abilities in the disciplines surrounding water quality sampling, technical writing and assist in project management of permit applications. This position will involve travel in the State of Arizona, as needed and based on Program objectives. The goal of the Program is to establish data sets and summaries relating to the conditions of groundwater quality in the State to further our mission of protecting and enhancing human health and the environment.
This position is available for remote work on a full time basis within Arizona. (including virtual office arrangements ).

Job Duties: |
The Environmental Scientist 2 will collect data, provide technical support, draft technical reports, work with Senior level staff and manage spreadsheets to benefit outcomes of the Ambient Monitoring and Pesticides Program. The role will also involve Individual Permitting Work with our Aquifer Protection Program as needed in industries such as Mining and Wastewater.
- Field Experience conducting sampling according to Sampling and Analysis Plans (SAPs), Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs) and filling out Chains of Custody
- Passion for protecting human health and the environment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): |
- Knowledge of State and Federal environmental regulations, environmental sciences and research, AZ sources of pollution, best practices for preventing the release of pollutants, environmental research, investigation techniques and statistical analysis, Agency policies and processes,
- Ability to travel and conduct work in the field, including inclement weather
- Ability to understand and apply environmental Rules and Statues; to follow guidance documents, standard operating procedures, and other technical instructions in performance of tasks; to prepare clear, concise and accurate reports; and to summarize completed tasks and/or monitoring data orally and in written communication
Selective Preference(s): |
- Bachelor’s degree in physical sciences, hydrology, geology, environmental engineering/sciences/management, chemistry, law or sustainability
- Level 2: 2 years + experience
- Master’s Degree may be a substitute for 2 years of experience
