Job Summary:

This position provides legal support services to attorneys and staff, and supports the ADEQ Records Management Center within the Office of Administrative Counsel in fulfilling complex public records requests, including locating, reviewing and redacting all communications, such as emails and chats, for responsiveness and confidentiality. The position will process and respond to subpoenas under the guidance of the Office of Administrative Counsel. The position will also assist with file organization and review for litigation support and special projects. This position supports the Office of Administrative Counsel by providing preliminary legal research, analysis, and reporting of findings. The position will assist with records request fulfillment, special records organization projects, and document locating and reviews. This position will utilize ADEQ's eDiscovery software to perform searches for electronic records, including email and chats, review and redact the records, and produce those records.


This position may be available for remote work within Arizona (3 days per week in the office/hoteling).

Job Duties:

• Complete special projects as assigned, and assist Administrative Counsel attorneys with a wide-ranging array of administrative support functions. Provides legal support services to attorneys and staff; prepares drafts of legal memorandum and reports; conducts legal research and investigations; assists in complex and large-scale projects; conducts legal research in support of legislative and policy projects.
• Performs in-take, analyzes, organizes, reviews, redacts complex public records request including those marked all communications. Utilize ADEQ's eDiscovery software to perform searches for electronic records, review and redact records, and produce records. Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and compliance staff to assess potential environmental impacts and establish appropriate permit conditions.
• Receives, collects and provides responsive information to public records request
• Respond to inquiries related to permit requirements, engage in public outreach, and participate in public meetings as needed.
• Process and respond to subpoenas and public records requests.
• Interact with agency staff and with Attorney General's Office to ensure compliance standards are met.

• Methods and techniques of legal research
• Records Management Principles & Practices, including creation, retention, destruction, and preservation of records, both physical and electronic.
• Relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to records management
• eDiscovery process and related software and tools, essential for managing electronic records

• State statutes, rules and regulations as they pertain to the Department and section

Selective Preference(s):

• High school diploma or GED
• 2+ years of experience as a legal assistant or paralegal in a law firm, legal department, or government agency
• Associate's or bachelor's degree in legal studies or a related field preferred.
• Experience with legal software and document management systems preferred.
