Under the direction of the Tucson Regional Supervisor, the Wildlife Law Enforcement Specialist Supervisor is responsible for the coordination and administration of law enforcement programs within the region. This position supervises the Law Enforcement Specialist position within the region.
Job Duties: |
Major duties include:
- Supervises the Tucson Regional law enforcement program. Reports directly to the Regional Supervisor; may act as Regional Supervisor in that person's absence; Provide staff expertise in preparation of Department reports and correspondence; advise and counsel Regional law enforcement officers re: procedure and protocol for law enforcement activities;
- Prepares law enforcement planning and scheduling documents for regional officers, assists with tracking regional law enforcement metrics and LEM compliance and functions as regional liaison to external interests for law enforcement program
- Prepares and monitors annual budget for regional law enforcement program and performs law enforcement functions for various Department law enforcement activities
- Evaluates and assess violation report data to determine regional focus for law enforcement efforts; review incident reports and ensure compliance with Department law enforcement database standards (WILDS); integrate program areas needs and activities with other Department work units and functions;
- Be the direct liaison between the region and the Field Operations Law Enforcement Division. Administers the regional responsibilities for shooting preserve licenses, wildlife holding licenses, zoo licenses, and guide licenses.
- Department representative and liaison to external customers; networks with program area user groups, land management agencies, and enforcement jurisdictions and cooperators; coordinates and cooperates with other public management entities pertaining to program area; prepares, reviews and/or recommends I&E materials for program area.
- Supervises and conducts annual performance evaluations for direct report(s); coordinates and schedules regional reserve officers.
- Coordinates and administers training for wildlife, watercraft and OHV law enforcement; monitor qualifications to ensure regional officers are current and within AZPOST and Department standards; assist with Department training academy for new officers as needed; conduct other law enforcement training as assigned; evaluate training effectiveness and make recommendations for enhancement.
- Develops and recommends viable regional program direction based on customer needs assessment and state-wide strategic plans; assists responsive management personnel in assessing and surveying internal and external customers; prepares and presents public presentations based on customer need;
- Maintains the regional database for information intelligence and investigative information aimed at apprehending and preventing wildlife, off-highway vehicle and watercraft violations through the Department’s Wildlife Information Law Enforcement DataBase System (WILDS)
- Enforces all State Statutes as a fully certified Arizona P.O.S.T peace officer and conducts law enforcement patrol and investigations and provides public safety presence and assistance as needed or assigned
- Regularly available as the duty officer at the Regional Office
- Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): |
Knowledge of: Arizona Game and Fish Wildlife Laws and Commission rules; State Watercraft and Off-Highway Vehicle laws and commission rules; State and Federal environmental laws; Arizona Criminal Laws and rules of procedure; State and federal laws relative to search and seizure.
Skill: administrative and supervisory principles; wildlife biology, management and identification; information and database systems; scientific and analytical study, design and protocol; training needs assessment (techniques, program design instruction); public communication; delegation; budget analysis.
The candidate will have operational experience or knowledge of a variety of equipment to include but not limited to vehicles, boats, firearms, video equipment, camping equipment and outdoor land and water survival.
Selective Preference(s): |
The preferred candidate will have at least three years of professional experience in wildlife research, wildlife management or wildlife law enforcement work.

The candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in wildlife science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university. Applicants must have Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZPOST) certification.
Employment may be contingent upon completion of a post-offer medical/physical examination and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions. Position requires possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)
