Job Summary:

• Responsible for managing all aspects of the Arizona Department of Education's (ADEs) data services and data services team including but not limited to:
• Strong leadership and team management skills, with a proven ability to lead data services teams, balance service delivery, and met operational objectives in a fast-paced environment.
• Oversee the daily operations of a team of data professionals including Business Intelligence, Database Administration, and Development, ensuring that our data infrastructure is robust, scalable, and aligned with business goals.
• Oversee the daily operations of the data infrastructure including maintenance and support activities.
• Extensive experience with Agile methodologies and service delivery.
• Experience managing data services and database operations in a cloud-based environment.
• Rare in-state travel is required for this position.

The Arizona Department of Education currently utilizes a hybrid work environment, with up to two days of remote work (contingent upon business needs). Candidates should apply with an ability and willingness to work in-office up to five days per week as business needs necessitate.

Job Duties:

• Provide leadership and team management to staff including 1:1s, team meetings, performance reviews, mentorship, and career development.
• Ensure the optimal performance and configuration of data systems, enhancing efficiency, accessibility, and security across the organization's data assets.
• Ensure service level objectives are met related to daily operations of the data infrastructure including maintenance and support activities and project related data services support.
• Lead and oversee the development and optimization of the organization's data architecture, ensuring robust, scalable frameworks that support our data management and integration needs.
• Lead process improvement initiatives for the team, continuously evaluating and refining workflows in alignment with process improvement guidelines to enhance agility and increase the throughput of work.
• Provide comprehensive documentation for data systems architecture, operational standards and processes, and integrations, ensuring clarity and consistency in data handling and usage.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge in:
• Experience with Azure, particularly in managing data services and operations; storage accounts, disks, and virtual machines (and related reservations).
• Experience with data integration tools, Azure Data Factory, Azure DevOps, Azure SQL, SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), and cloud-based data management solutions.
• Logical and physical database design, database maintenance and performance tuning, database backups/recovery, capacity management, high-availability solutions (clustering, Always On), automated scheduling of database-related processes, database connectivity, database replication, adherence to naming standards, database monitoring and alerts, and database object migrations.
• Strong focus on workflow management and process improvement, overseeing data services related service requests and projects from initiation to completion while ensuring service delivery aligns with business objectives.
• A Bachelor’s degree plus eight or more years of related experience, or equivalent experience to substitute for the degree, is required.
• Applicants must have a minimum of three years’ supervisory/management experience.

Retirement:
