Job Summary: |
The Border Environmental Science Specialist is responsible for supporting the media areas that are most relevant in the Border Programs Unit aiming at addressing cross-border environmental issues in air quality, water quality and waste management. A special focus will be in implementing projects derived from the Arizona-Sonora Environmental Strategic Plan for waste management and those targeting air quality improvements in binational airsheds along the Arizona-Sonora border region. Additionally, this position is expected to support Community Engagement efforts when involving cross-border collaboration from Mexico and the Community Science and Education initiatives from the agency with tasks in the southern border region of the state.
This position may be available for remote work within Arizona (2-3 days per week in the office/hoteling).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): |
- Agency policies and processes and State and Federal environmental regulations.
- Environmental sciences and its applications.
- Arizona's sources of pollution, of the techniques and practices for preventing and remediating the releases of pollutants, and of Arizona's natural features as they pertain to environmental regulations.
- Environmental research and investigate techniques and statistical analysis.
Selective Preference(s): |
- A bachelor’s degree in environmental management or natural resources management, environmental planning, or a related scientific field such as hydrology, geology, biology, or chemistry is required.
- A minimum of two years of professional experience in the environmental arena with proven experience in project management.
- Fluency in both English and Spanish: speaking, reading and writing.
- It is recommended that the candidate have some experience in binational collaboration to address environmental issues along the border between Arizona and Sonora.
