DETENTION TRANSPORT OFFICER

Location: Phoenix, Arizona 

Salary:  $54,831.92 - $71,726.51 Annually

Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Public Safety is seeking motivated and experienced personnel to join our team.  Detention Transport Officers, under general supervision, provides support services to Department personnel by transporting, booking and/or processing detained or arrested persons. Performs related duties as assigned. This recruitment is to establish an 18-month eligibility list to fill current and future vacancies in the Phoenix area. This is a competitive classification.

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, and one (1) year of experience as a detention or correction officer OR graduation from a certified law enforcement training academy. 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age by hire date.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona Driver license by hire date.
  • Must be able to work any hours including weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, call-outs and overtime.
  • Must successfully complete a Department selected detention/transport training program. This requirement may be waived if an approved training program has been completed or similar work has been performed within the last five (5) years.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • May be exposed to fumes or dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather, moving mechanical parts and moderate to loud noise levels.
  • Will be required to control combative, intoxicated, mentally ill, and uncooperative prisoners.

Must successfully complete the examination process.

Progression to the next step requires an overall performance rating of at least "Standard" in the last 12 months.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Applicants must complete an examination process. A polygraph and background investigation are required for successful applicants. DPS supports a drug-free work environment through pre-employment drug testing.
If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business, then the following requirements apply: Driver’s License Requirements.
