This position is based out of the Phoenix Office.
Job Summary: |
The Environmental Science Specialist (Groundwater Inspector) will be responsible for performing inspections at wastewater treatment plants, wastewater collection systems, mining sites, and other regulated facilities/industries in order to determine compliance against permit requirements. This position will also be required to draft compliance and enforcement documentation as needed and work proactively with facilities to resolve non-compliance issues.
This position may be available for remote work within Arizona (3 days per week in the office/hoteling).

Job Duties: |
• Conducts inspections at regulated sites, file reviews and complaint inspections throughout the state of Arizona with the expectation of travel across the state requiring overnight stays.
• Provides compliance assistance in the field and increase compliance at the time of inspection.
• Works with permitted facilities to reduce the number of open compliance cases, and reduce the time required to return facilities to compliance.
• Reduces Aquifer Quality Limit (AQL)/Discharge Limit (DL) exceedances through inspections, outreach and compliance assistance.
• Provides innovative solutions to reoccurring compliance issues.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): |
• Knowledge of wastewater systems and/or mining operations.
• Knowledge of Agency policies and processes, interpret State and Federal environmental regulations, environmental sciences and research, AZ sources of pollution, best practices for preventing the release of pollutants, environmental research, investigation techniques and statistical analysis.
• Ability to understand and apply environmental rules and statues; to follow guidance documents, standard operating procedures, and other technical instructions in performance of tasks; to prepare clear, concise and accurate reports; and to summarize completed tasks and/or monitoring data orally and in written communication.
• Experience in project management, MS Office, customer service/outreach and aptitude for problem solving preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to schedule, conduct and manage multiple projects at the same time.
• Strong communications skills and ability to work effectively in a team based collaborative environment.
Selective Preference(s): |
• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, toxicology, environmental science, water resources, hydrology, geology, other related subjects.
• Level 1: 0-2 years’ experience (Master’s degree or Doctorate may substitute for 2 years of experience)
• Level 2: Requires 2 years’ experience (Masters degree may substitute for 2 years exp.).
• Level 3: Requires 5 years’ experience (Masters degree may substitute for 2 years exp., Doctorate 4 years).
• Valid Arizona Driver License required.
• The position is approximately 50% work from home and 50% in the field/office.
• This position requires overnight travel.
