The Library Associate supports the StARL team in establishing a proactive service culture to ensure patrons have expedited, accurate and relevant access to both physical and online collections that tell the story of Arizona’s history and government by:

1. Providing essential customer service support in the Reading Room (answering phones, registering visitors upon arrival, directing researchers to appropriate reference staff, and occasionally assisting with requests for obituary and/or article lookups)
2. Shelving materials
3. Processing print and electronic materials
4. Assisting with special projects for multiple collections
5. Fulfilling Interlibrary Loan requests in accordance to policy

This position is a part of the State of Arizona Research Library team at the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records, reporting to the Administrator. This position must work collaboratively with StARL team members, as well as other Library, Archives and IT staff.

This is a full-time position consisting of a 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm. This position requires a background check and a fingerprint card on file. The position requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds. This position must have a valid Arizona driver’s license, be able to drive a state vehicle, and be willing and able to travel in state.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:

- Provides researcher support in the Rosenbaum Reading Room, including answering phones, registering researchers, directing researchers to reference staff, and occasionally assisting with requests for obituary and/or article lookups. Shelves and files materials in the Reading Room and in the closed stacks.
- Processes items for collections, such as newspapers, books, periodicals, and city/county reports. Digitally harvests items from online sources. Supports librarians in special projects (scanning, preservation activities, shelf-shifting, etc.).
- Fulfills incoming and outgoing InterLibrary Loan requests in accordance with Library policy.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
- Library cataloging and metadata standards
- Library customer service and patron support

Skill in:
- Cataloging, writing metadata
- Office computer skills, including Windows, Word and Excel.
- Basic customer service and reference support

Ability to:
- Work effectively in a team environment with diverse groups of people, including both technical and non-technical staff
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Follow written instructions.
- Perform repetitive tasks.
- Lift up to 25 pounds.

Selective Preference(s):

Some college required; prefer a bachelor's degree.
Interest in state government and Arizona history.

Retirement:

To help you build a financially secure future, the State makes monthly contributions to finance your retirement benefit. The State will contribute to the ASRS in an amount equal to your contribution. In other words, you and the State will each pay 50% of the total cost of the benefit. New State employees have a 27-week wait period for contributions to begin
