Job Summary: |
The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is looking for an astute and precise problem solver with excellent communication skills. This position is responsible for compliance of all state, federal, and agency laws, policies, and procedures pertaining to the areas of financial and business office data and its various systems.
Job Duties: |
- Entering and verifying financial and other data to provide records, reports, and other information and correspondence in a systematic manner
- Performs routine accounting tasks involving basic numeric calculations
- Enters data in all systems related to job duties
- Examines and verifies financial transactions such as billing invoices, accounts payable/ receivable, payroll, creating requisitions, and other financial documents
- Record keeping and/or journal entries to include maintenance of financial records, reports, checks, and deposits
- Creates, maintains, and reconciles spreadsheets
- Resolves technical problems, investigates, and resolves account discrepancies
- Prepares job-related correspondence
- Drives on State business
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): |
Knowledge of:
- Principles, concepts, and techniques of government accounting and fiscal management
- Procedures, methods, and office equipment used in statistical record-keeping
- General office procedures
- Computers and various software including Microsoft Office and Google Suites
Skill in:
- Verbal and written communication
- Prioritizing and organizing tasks
- Operating various office equipment and automated accounting systems
- 10-key/calculator
- Work techniques required to maintain accounting records through automated systems
- Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships
Ability to:
- Accurately work with numbers and complete mandated reports in required formats
- Adapt to changing priorities and situations
- Research and compile fiscal and statistical information
- Interpret ADCRR policies as they pertain to accounting
- Work in a prison environment
Selective Preference(s): |
One (1) year of experience in governmental accounting or one (1) year working in the private sector business field
Pre-Employment Requirements: |
Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation and a drug test.
If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
In an effort to maintain a safe environment, all employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.
