Job Summary: |
The Arizona Department of Correction, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking to hire a Communication Technician to join our Emergency Preparedness Radio Services Unit. This position supports the acquisition, installation, testing, inventory, repair, and maintenance tracking services of two-way radio communication devices and systems. Job Duties: |
- Isolates communication discrepancies
- Tests and repairs communication devices utilizing complex troubleshooting equipment
- Installs radio base, mobile, and remote control equipment using hand and power tools
- Documents work-related activities including the use of a database system
- Conducts research and submits purchase requests for parts
- Creates diagrams
- Attends training in accordance with Department policy
- Constructs or modifies electronic communications interconnected circuitry
- Tests various circuits and components utilizing specialized analysis equipment
- Measures frequency, modulation and power output of transmitters to ensure compliance with Federal regulations
- Conducts field surveys for the purpose of measuring radio system performance
- Responds to emergencies situations in regards to communications when necessary
- Troubleshoots and repairs antennas and antenna cables at various locations
- Conducts liaisons and training for complex Radio Coordinators
- Drives on State business
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): |
Knowledge of:
- Electronics and radio theory, along with Federal regulations applicable to land mobile radio systems methods, utilization of tools, equipment, and material used in radio testing and repair work
- Motorola and Harris technologies
- Installation and maintenance procedures, techniques, and practices for two-way and mobile/base radio equipment, use of calibration, and care of electronic test equipment
- Calibration and care of electronic test equipment and web-based service order tracking system
Skill in:
- Troubleshooting, installing, modifying and repairing electronic communication equipment
- Interpretation of electronic drawings, sketches, and schematics
- Use of sophisticated radio communications test equipment
- Operation of surface-mount technology soldering station
- Operation of a plastic engraving machine
- Performing radio service using personal computer equipment and software along with radio interface devices
- Using handing and power tools
- Maintaining records and preparing reports
- Operating motor vehicles including large service vans
- Utilizing web-based programs and Microsoft software applications
Ability to:
- Lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Climb ladders and work at heights up to 100 feet
- Discern colors used in multi-pair communications cable
- Detect traffic sounds and backup warning devices when working around traffic and moving equipment
- Work in a small confined area and various weather conditions
- Respond to emergencies situations as they arise
Selective Preference(s): |
- At least two (2) years of experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of two-way communication equipment
- Understanding of prison operations
- Experience in parts inventory management
- Have any combination of education, training, or experience equivalent to a two-year course study in electronics or electronics technology
Pre-Employment Requirements: |
Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation and a medical/physical examination.
If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
In an effort to maintain a safe environment, all employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.
