DES is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Applications Developer Senior/Lead (SQL Server Database Administrator). This position is responsible for the overall management and maintenance of information databases used to operate IT applications and systems. The DBA partners with application teams and infrastructure operations to ensure that database performance is not hindered and performance standards adhere to service level agreements set with the enterprise. DBA will manage and maintain SQL Ml/ SQL Server/Postgre SQL databases, ensuring their performance, availability, security, and integrity through tasks like monitoring, backups, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties: |
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Partners with development teams to design data management and governance protocols, manages the information lifecycle, and design infrastructure and data integration controls. Proactively solves problems. Installs, monitors. and directs proactive and reactive measures to ensure the availability, integrity, confidentiality and reliability of database systems.
• Meets performance standards in accordance to service level agreements set by the company. Identifies data sources, constructs data decomposition diagrams, provides data flow diagrams and documents the process. Implement and review appropriate security guidelines/mechanisms.
• Analyzes and reports the performance of database operations against the key database performance metrics. Develops and test database migration procedures and performs database migrations.
• Designs, configures, implements, and administers all databases for the respective parties involved. Develops database administration tools/utilities/operation procedures.
• Builds and manages the database disaster recovery and backup plan. Performs database maintenance functions. Move, rebuild, or change database objects as required in production.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): |
Knowledge of:
• Conceptual, Logical and Physical data models, technical architecture, system interfaces, etc.
• In-depth knowledge of SQL with an emphasis on the Azure Platform - SQL Ml
• PostgreSQL I Vector Databases
• High availability and disaster recovery solutions
• Azure DevOps Cl/CD
Skills In:
• Strong experience using AZURE SQL Ml.
• Performance Tuning and Optimization and strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with database security best practices and backup/recovery procedures
• Migrating on-prem databases to the cloud platform
• Proficient with relational databases ( SQL Server)
Ability to:
• Document database configurations, procedures, standards and ensure adherence to database policies and procedures.
• Organize, plan and coordinate activities that are beneficial for all DES administrations.
• Model and design relational databases to include installing and supporting relational database management systems (ROMS).
• Find root causes of problems and quickly determines efficient solutions
• Perform independent research and utilize that research to the strategic advantage of the DTS.
• Assist developers in troubleshooting the cause of SQL and/or application failures, while maintaining database availability that will meet required Service Level Agreements.
Selective Preference(s): |
This ideal candidate for this position will have:
• 5 or more years of SQL Server with managing cloud based databases.
Pre-Employment Requirements: |
• This position may require driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business, then the following requirements apply: Driver’s License Requirements.
• Employee shall obtain and maintain a valid Level One fingerprint clearance card that meets DES requirements for a Level One card pursuant to Arizona Revised Statute 41-1969.
• Bachelor's degree plus 8 or more years of programming and analysts experience (or equivalent experience).
• Microsoft Certified in Azure Data Fundamentals and Azure Database Administrator Associate
• Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
