Job Summary: |
Under general supervision, preforms a variety of skilled work activities in the operation and maintenance of a recreational, historic or natural resource park; interprets natural features of the area, or historic objects /artifacts for visitors; and insures public safety by enforcing Park rules and regulations.
Job Duties: |
- Hosts visitors;
- Conducts interpretive programs and may lead guided walks or hikes;
- Provides information in response to visitor questions and concerns;
- Enforces Park rules and protect Park resources;
- Utilizes two-way radio communications system;
- Confers with local officials and law enforcement officers;
- Completes all necessary reports concerning incidents; Collects and accounts for fees;
- Maintains and inspects all park facilities, grounds and specialized systems for completion of various basic carpentry, improvement and repair projects while following maintenance standards; litter removal, trail maintenance, toilet cleaning.
- Instructs subordinate staff in the operational functions of the Park and work systems;
- Constructs temporary and permanent exhibits and displays.
- Leads and or contributes to projects involving grounds, irrigation, landscaping and water infrastructure.
- Completes all necessary reports concerning , revenue and attendance, time sheets, etc;
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): |
Knowledge of:
-Techniques in maintenance and upkeep of facilities and Park grounds;
- Park curatorial
- Practices and display techniques;
- Park rules, fees and revenue functions;
- Techniques for display and interpretation of objects/ artifacts and general resources to visitors;
- Law enforcement practices and principles; general office procedures.
Skill in:
- Public relations and information dissemination;
- Practices and techniques of maintenance; driving, operating and maintaining automotive equipment;
- Basic curatorial techniques
Ability to:
- Research of natural or historical information;
- performing math calculations;
- first aid techniques;
- Oral and written communications;
- Interpersonal relationships
Selective Preference(s): |
Two years of experience equivalent to a Park Ranger Specialist , OR three years of work experience in customer service, library or museum work; OR a Bachelor’s degree in Park Management, Forestry , Natural Resources Management, or a closely related field. Any combination of training and experience that meet knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted .
Pre-Employment Requirements: |
Must possess and maintain a current Arizona Driver's license appropriate to assignment.
Some positions may require certification as an Emergency Medical Technician, Electrician, and/or Wastewater Treatment Operator.
