Job Summary:

This position leads a crew of traffic signal technicians responsible for the maintenance, repair, and construction of ADOT traffic signals, highway lighting systems and ITS sites. The primary responsibility is to monitor and maintain these systems at safe and efficient operational levels as required by the MUTCD and ADOT. In addition to being a working member of the crew, this position schedules and assigns work activities, reviews traffic control plans, monitors employee safety, and performs maintenance management program duties.

Job Duties:

Routine preventative maintenance and repairs of traffic signals, highway lighting and ITS systems including the performance of lead-man duties.

Non-routine work on traffic signals, highway lighting and ITS systems including emergency trouble call response, betterment projects and other projects through the work order process.

Written and computer based work consisting of preparing reports and schedules, maintaining system related databases and updating as-built files,
control cabinet prints and timing records, entry and reviewing of crew time materials and equipment within the PECOS management system, and
maintaining inventory levels through the use of the HMMI system.

Procuring required resources for assigned activities (scheduling borrowed labor, ordering materials, locating equipment).

Monitor the safety of crew members and the public (work site traffic control, protective equipment and OSHA requirements). Oversee user
maintenance and operation of vehicular and lifting equipment (CDL and OSHA requirements).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of management /supervision principles.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code, NEMA Standards, MUTCD, ADOT Standards and Specifications.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State safety standards.
  • Knowledge of AC and DC electronics, intermediate knowledge of circuit integration.
  • Foreman level knowledge and background in electrical construction, maintenance and management.

SKILL

  • Skill in the operation of heavy equipment.
  • Skill in training crew members on new equipment and/or responsibilities.
  • Skill in mathematics.

ABILITY

  • Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
  • Ability to give written and oral communications.
  • Ability to coordinate a large number of subordinate personnel.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret engineering data.
  • Ability to troubleshoot malfunctions and to determine the appropriate course of action.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
Selective Preference(s):

High school diploma or GED

  • Valid Arizona Drivers License - This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
  • Class A CDL
